Did we all take organic chemistry & the MCAT & miss the social part of our early 20’s and work 80 hours a week for 3+ years for the brain worm guy who doesn’t know what a p-value is to destroy our nation’s public health system? No.

Time to lean into our expertise and speak up.

We should determine if downsizing the National Weather Service, off-loading emergency responses, & policy that ignores climate change contributed to deaths in Texas. If not, environmental disasters will become the new gun violence - deaths we shrug our shoulders about & accept.
The Trump administration has chosen not just to trivialize the danger presented by climate change, but to revoke funding for the very data collection and research that would help the country better understand and prepare for this moment.

The Texas Flash Flood Is a Preview of the Chaos to Come
Climate change is making disasters more common, more deadly and far more costly, even as the federal government is running away from the policies that might begin to protect the nation.

We have a moral obligation to speak out to help our patients.
it’s shocking to me how quickly the decades-long bipartisan consensus in support of NIH & research into cancer and other diseases evaporated

the evisceration of NIH makes state & private fundraising all the more urgent as a stopgap, till we come to our senses

we are leaving patients in the lurch
At the very same time Fox is criticizing Gavin Newsom for attending a fundraiser for cancer research, Donald Trump is at his country club in NJ hosting a high-dollar fundraiser for himself with fat-cat mega donors while we are on the brink of war..

Repealing the Medicaid expansion could cause nearly 15,000 excess deaths annually. Preventable deaths are particularly tragic.
The US Congress has proposed cuts to Medicaid, a programme with 72 million people enrolled, reversing the Affordable Care Act expansion.

In a letter, authors estimate the potential effect of the cuts on mortality & catastrophic health-care spending: tinyurl.com/mwp53v8t

Someone needs to teach RFK Jr that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will direct federal health agencies to explore potential new treatments for measles as the U.S. faces its largest outbreak in 25 years. Experts fear the decision could have grave consequences, as studies show the existing vaccine is 97% effective in preventing infection.
RFK Jr. Orders Search for New Measles Treatments Instead of Urging Vaccination
Decades of research have turned up no miracle treatment for measles, but studies show the M.M.R. shot is 97 percent effective in preventing the disease.

Today I am calling my reps to object to international students who are legally in the country having their visas revoked without committing a crime. This action is reprehensible and wastes resources that could be used to protect us from real criminals.
Immigration arrests are taking place at universities across the U.S. The story of three Columbia students helps explain what’s happening, and why.

Listen to "The Daily."
