Safety/privacy concerns. The same reason I don't use my last name on social media. I may change it later to something else that's generic.

Helen, yes and no. Not all without a profile picture are bots. Some bots/botnets are obvious. Same with the spammers and scammers.
Genuine question, asked out of ignorance: do any real people who use this site have a generic asterisk or similar as a profile pic? Can I identify bot followers based on profile pic alone?
Has anyone else been getting a ton of blatantly fake bot followers/DMs here every single day for months?
