I live in Zohran's old assembly district. I have a senator who refused to endorse him, a congressperson who was his biggest ally, and a nearby house leader who refused to endorse him on TV but had an uneasy partnership with him behind the scenes.

And before you say it, it's not about "the groups" or the party becoming "too woke." Tirelessly defending core constituencies is good politics and a Democratic Party that can't or won't stand by the people at greatest risk is no party at all.

You are litigating 2024. I am talking about a decades-long trend at all levels in which the Democratic Party has moved away from a clear economic agenda that can be explained through the lens of a few core programs that benefit lots of people.

If we're just saying there is no way to reach people (not the hardened bigots, but the people who are turned off by politics and think nothing will ever change) then there's no point in having a democracy. Let's just throw the whole thing out

I think it is quite easy for two things to be true at the same time: 1) there is deep misogyny and racism within the electorate; 2) a clearly articulated economic message that names specific things you will do to make life better for people
