Does anyone else get that feeling like there's a river of ideas trapped behind a dam in their head just bursting to break through ... Til you sit in front of a screen and the words all dry up.

Assuming all fanfiction is written poorly really just shows you've never been caught in the chokehold of a 150k slowburn that changed the course of your life at 2:40am written by someone whose username has 4 Zs in it and they only wrote one fic and then vanished like an ethereal legend.

Agreed. It’s highly rude from reality’s part to force us to write directly. Why can’t we project our thoughts into the word processor so the we can just edit it? 🙁
heartbreaking: writer realizes that in order to write the book they vividly daydream about 24/7, they need to physically write the words even though they're so so sleepy all the time

As someone who grew up and came into their own within a fandom, my absolute greatest dream as an author would be to see community form around my stories. Even if it's just two people who find friendship or belonging because of their common interest, I'd be so thrilled to be a part of that. 💙

Before I was published, I'd never heard of Netgalley or Goodreads. Never read Amazon reviews. Never looked at "our best books of..." lists. Wasn't aware who was a ST bestseller. Didn't know 99% of the biggest authors in the world. But I loved books all the same. I think most readers are that way.

The good: new desk arrived for to make perfect setting to write many words.

The bad: flat pack desk. 😞

The ugly: the world's smallest and most ineffectual allen key in the history of DIY hubris.

My fingers hurt and it's not anywhere near done. 😭

Oh my god yessss. Met my oldest friend on another friend's guestbook way back in like 2001. A different time, a different internet.
thinking about guestbooks. it's a relic from an era where (1.) the gap between "irl" and "internet" was massive, enough so that "logging on" was kind of a significant act. and (2.) it was pre-web 2.0. a rare way to leave a small mark online before social media. (ignoring forums etc)

I've promised mum I'll publish a book before she goes (she's terminal), yet the nature of our circumstance means I find it very hard to find time/motivation to work. I know a true professional just does the work - but I'm not a professional yet, and writing is another hard on top of everything else.

The struggle is real.
Some days, I want to write religious horror under a penname

Other days, I want to write super fluffy romances under my name

And then there are the days where I just want to write fandom smut under a secret 3rd name

So many options, so little time

Don't be too overly ambitious with your daily page/word count goals. The higher the goal, the less likely you are to hit it, causing frustration and ultimately procrastination.

Setting a low daily goal means hitting it consistently, seeing real progress, while maintaining the momentum to finish.
