The Lazy Quilter
@fabriholic.bsky.social
Dog mom, quilter, pro-democracy. I've been known to camouflage errors with pigma pens. Embrace the wabi sabi! I'm here for the quilts. Please don't be offended if I don't follow back.
Hey #Quiltsky ! I'm working on a giant tumbling blocks quilt. I love the border print (Jinny Beyer) and I'm thinking the gold blocks really distract from it. What are your thoughts? Apologies for the dark photos. My basement isn't well lit.

Quilting is in progress. The negative space is finished and round 1 of borders is done. I still have to figure out what I want to do with the stars and the rest of the borders. #quiltsky

And now to sew all the blocks together, make a quilt back, cut a binding, quilt and bind it. The border was inspired by a Robin Pickens blog for Moda Blockheads located here -> www.robinpickens.com/blog/borders...

Call me a romantic. This Valentine's day I'm thinking how much I love fabric. 🤣

Sew along the sew line (solid line) Press the seam open and we're back to where we started.

Forgot the photo of the lobbed off fabric...

Cut the 1/4" and line up the next piece of fabric.

Add a quarter inch seam allowance. I use an add a quarter ruler that has a ledge but any quilting ruler will work.

Fold the foundation paper on the next line to be sewn. Yes - you sometimes have to tear the foundation a bit to make that fold. No biggie!

Trim the excess fabric that lands outside the foundation...

A partially finished arc. Section has been sewn on and needs to be trimmed.

Here's the foundation paper template rough cut just outside the 1/4" seam

Have you ever gotten more than half way through a quilt when you realize the instructions which said "These go fast!" didn't mention trimming each section of every arc to 1/4" seam allowance? I'm just so used to using the add a quarter ruler when I FPP. 🤣 I tried an arc without trimming. Seems bulky

They're collies - 100ish lbs each. I think these were size 26 or 28. The female totally needs pink cat eye eyeglasses to go with the leopard print fleece. 🤣Male is a tri-pawd so I sewed up the appropriate armhole to keep the draft out.

My favorite quick and easy quilts are giant half square trianges. You can make giant flying geese, a star, chevrons etc.
Also out crumb quilting! It's a great way to use up all of the scraps we seem to create and it's very relaxing. There are lots of videos out there on the topic.

Indian Orange Peel quilt update or Captain's log stardate 2621.4. 20 arcs done, 100 to go!

Messing around with the placement of the 4 patch blocks for the Indian Orange Peel quilt. I'm thinking greens at the bottom, purples/pinks in the middle and blues at the top. Sort of a garden idea. Thoughts and suggestions are very welcome! First photo is where it started, second is current.

Apologies for reposting a quilt I've already shared. I'm determined to learn to use alt text.

Indian Orange Peel Quilt: The color palette thus far

Almost over the finish line. I just need to sew the binding to the back. Given my track record, this could take longer than making the quilt. 🤣 #quiltsky #quilt

A work in progress. The quilting is a bit wonky but then so is the quilter 🧵 #quiltsky #quilt #quilting

Some older quilts: Aunt Mary and I worked on this together as a gift for her close friend's granddaughter. The recipient picked the colors and the celtic theme. Aunt Mary had never quilted before. Rays of Hope free foundation paper pattern from Carol Doak. www.caroldoak.com/free-quilt-p...
