like, there's a bakery called "gregory's" that uses eta to represent both the "e" and "y" parts of that name?

there's a store called "ΣΚΛΑΒΕΝΙΤΗΣ" which is fine except that on their own trucks, they use the english "i" for both iota and eta??

and upsilon can be both "u" AND "y" in the same word???

i ended up making this fucking monstrosity my signature cocktail at the wedding, and it was everything i hoped for:

the bartenders were wondering aloud "why is he having us make this", and the people who ordered it did so while saying "i'm not a coward"

a drink card for a signature cocktail called the "Jeering Skull", with a drawing of a skull underneath the name. the ingredients listed are dr. pepper, vodka, pickle juice, and jalapeño concentrate. under the list of ingredients, it says "Try it, coward"

i legit think it's kinda awesome that freddy fucking fazbear is on soda cans tbh

i had the same revelation when i started shaving my head - "now i get to wear hats" and also "now i HAVE TO wear hats" lol

early on i was big into pub caps/flat caps, but if you wanna cover your ears, get a neat beanie (without too much room on top)

i guess my main point of comparison is SILENT HILL HOMECOMING, where this early scene from the first section of the game essentially reveals half of the "twist" that the game only confirms for you immediately before the final boss fight.

the monsters don't really take much part in the drama, there.

alex shepherd, in a nightmarish and rust-covered hospital, looks through a metal gate at his kid brother joshua - who is kneeling on the ground, contentedly scribbling on paper like his surroundings aren't horrific, and seemingly uninterested in the fact that his brother alex is standing in front of him after having been gone for years.

one thing i've been enjoying about SILENT HILL F is that it doesn't treat the metaphorical nature of its horrors as a late-game reveal.

for me, at least, this helps dissuade me from cynically trying to guess what the "twist" is (as much), and lets me get more invested in the drama of the story.

hinako walks through a grand doorway into a candlelit room with an incredibly high ceiling. chains drape from the walls to the center of the ceiling, where a schoolboy is hanging from them like a grim chandelier. some of the chains attach to his neck, and the only thing stopping him from hanging to death is that other chains are holding him up by his wrists, too.

hinako walks down a mid-century elementary school hallway, one sleeve of her uniform torn off. the floor, some of the walls, and part of the ceiling are being chewed on by red blossoms and their tendrils. several paces ahead of her, the only ceiling light in the hallway is lit. directly underneath it is either a scarecrow or a corpse of a male student - it's impossible to tell which at this distance. the lower half of his body is posed like he's mid-run, or maybe dancing, but his elbows are held up above his shoulders, and his head and neck are bent fully in front of his chest, wringing his whole body into something like a human question mark.

as much as i adore silent hill's trademark rust-and-wire-and-orange-and-blood aesthetic, and masahiro ito's inspired monster design ethos from SH2, i am really stoked by how different SHf looks, while still feeling "silent-hill-y".

a scarecrow whose core is implied to be a human corpse, though there is no visible blood or bone. the body is dressed in a japanese schoolgirl uniform, and under the clothes is skin, though the arms are too thin and their joints are posed unnaturally and bound with rope. the face is mostly covered by a skin-fitting white porcelain mask of a human face, resembling the pale visages common in japanese horror films of the 90s and 00s.

an old-timey wooden box on a desk in a japanese village doctor's office. the top of the box is open. it is filled with bloody human eyeballs.

hinako looks down a street choked by fog, completely absorbing all visibility in about 50 feet. before the fog overtakes everything, we can see that the crimson flowers covering the ground eventually crescendo into large lumps of flesh and pulsing pink organs that overtake the fence and neighboring house.

unsurprisingly, silent hill f is immediately blowing me away with its music.

the throat-singing in the combat soundtrack is such a delight!

and i'm as in love with this floral horror as i was from the early trailers.

hinako is hunched over in the middle of a foggy street, fearfully gripping a leaden pipe. behind her, dead on the ground, is the bloodied body of a doll-like monster. creeping into the street from the edges of the frame is a carpet of red flowers.

this fact about theropod wrists is well-known to dedicated paleoartists, but not really known outside of dino fans.

so when i saw Chase Stone's drawing of a dragon whose forelimbs had palms facing inwards, looking like they COULDN'T pronate (like a theropod!), i just KNEW the guy drew dinos a lot 😍

Chase Stone's artwork for Leyline Tyrant from Magic: the Gathering. the dragon is in mid-flight, and its three-fingered forelimbs have palms facing each other, much like a non-avian theropod dinosaur.

jim is mostly right! "pronating your wrists" means "turning them so the palms face the ground", yes.

but theropod dinosaurs (like velociraptor, allosaurus, etc.) actually could not do that at all, despite common depictions (like the Jurassic Park raptors).

always delighted and amazed to learn that an artist who worked on one game i adore, also did work for ANOTHER game i adore.

@brucedraws.bsky.social did an amazing job with the ancient tomb from Edge of Eternities, and the act 3 background for Slay the Spire is, of course, iconic
