UK community pressure group, hoping to limit noise, pollution & environmental harm from Bristol Airport.
Trying to halt airport expansion
SAVE FELTON COMMON

Stop Bristol Airport's plan to put approach runway lights on a nature reserve

Protest at the Bristol Airport consultation 3-8pm 20th Nov at Felton Hall

Help plan our resistance at the BAAN public meeting 6.30-8pm 2nd Dec at Felton Hall (see flyer for details)

The Government should NOT be supporting #airportexpansion

Airport expansion DOESN'T boost economic growth
More flights = more emissions
More flights = harm to wildlife & local communities

Only a few benefit but we ALL pay the price

Some great #CleanEnergy policies here that we desperately need
But woefully inadequate 1 line mention of #aviation - the most polluting form of transport

#SAF WON'T fix the issue

No UK SAF plants yet despite 5 being promised by 2025

SAF uptake is ~2% in the UK & >1% globally

#WeNeedToFlyLess
Miliband’s clean energy plan offers real hope and must not be watered down

Some encouraging news in an area which is vital to both the economy and the environment, particularly to a region like the North East

Sadly the same old one-sentence nonsense trotted out about #SAF being the answer for #aviation
#SAF isn't the answer (see diagram below)
What's the sense in promoting clean electric vehicles but encouraging airports (& so the most polluting form of transport) to expand?

Is #AirportExpansion good for the economy?

#BristolAirport figures show <10% of passengers are non-UK

SO
Over 90% of flights are taking money OUT of our economy & spending it abroad

Millions of passengers spending £££ abroad
vs
a few hundred extra jobs & profits for foreign shareholders?
NOT good

Plans by #BristolAIrport to expand to 15mppa have been dealt a blow by the cross-party #EnvironmentAuditCommittee report out today

#EAC says UK Gov needs to show evidence that #AirportExpansion DOES create #EconomicGrowth

We don't think it does...

The air pollution from burning fossil fuels kills an estimated 10 million people a year

2024 #BristolAirport biggest revenue source is:
Car Park Revenue at >£75.5 MILLION

Now they want to make a 2.700 space temp #carpark on #greenbelt land permanent rather than build an #MSCP
Please object (by end Mon 13th Oct)
Stop the airport's land grab

Since start of 2025 there's been a UK 2% mandate of #SAF for fuel suppliers

How much #SAF was supplied in first 6 months?

Just 1.29%

5,814 MILLION litres of fossil fuel kerosene
and 17 million litres of #SAF

#SAF isn't the answer

Like #SAF (so called 'sustainable' aviation fuel)
#DAC or #CCS or #CCUS all are just myths which allow companies - and in particular airlines - to carry on polluting

It's much more cost-efficient in the long term to limit pollution now - not hope to clear it up later
#PolluterPays
#WeNeedToFlyLess
Pollutting now and cleaning up later is not a viable strategy: Direct Air Capture (DAC) is hitting a hard reality check.

Costs are falling much slower than anticipated, casting doubts on the nascent technique’s role in tackling climate change.

This is the case AGAINST UK airport expansion:

2023 #ONS statistics show £42 BILLION DEFICIT for UK tourism
SO...
UK tourists spent £42bn MORE abroad than foreign tourists spent in UK

2024 #ONS stats show deficit has now risen to £46billion

How can more holiday flights be good for our economy?

@BristolAirport are keeping to #nightflight quota of 4,000 by using #dispensations

For Q1 + Q2
Scheduled nightflights = 1487
ACTUAL nightflights = 1895
= 408 more nightflights than scheduled

But 321 dispensations allowed = 80% of extra unscheduled flights 🤬

“It’s true that Bristol Airport supports a great many jobs in our region, and is a major driver of economic growth"

IS it true tho?

Maybe she should look at our evidence rather than simply swallowing what the airport says?

#BristolAirport want to increase #nightflights by from 4,000 to 5,000

That's almost as many night flights as #Heathrow

90% of night flights happen in the summer
So they're especially disturbing
and very damaging for the health of local residents

We shouldn't let this happen
