A trade deficit specifically with one country, or overall?

That's possible, but again then why not ban certain imports or introduce fixed instead of gradually jacking up their price at the border and hoping it all works itself out?

US Balance of Trade Chart is below, for reference.

1/ Unique typing style aside, the President raises an interesting question here:

Why do some like me think Congress and the Founders are comfortable with him banning or licensing an import during an economic emergency, but not applying a tariff on it?

Let's talk about it.

The "hard-men" of Gondor were getting their shit kicked in until they were rescued by foreigners and a girl.

The Shire was doing fine until they let a fascist demagogue ("Sharkey" aka Saruman) take over, close the gates, impose a bunch of thug-enforced rules, and despoil nature for profit.

Being conservative is believing George Soros can buy millions of Americans marching on a weekend when Elon Musk couldn't buy a handjob on his own private jet.

"No idea. I'm completely stumped."

This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.

"Come quick, he's using a pillow like he's people!!!" is an objectively stupid thing to say and yet we say it every single time and come running every single time.

I'm not saying this meme sums up all the problems of modernity, but it comes really close.

MAGA have found this neat Gamergate cheatcode whereby you unleash your lunatic internet army to make death threats against staff of the corporation you're trying to bully, thereby allowing its leadership to neatly sidestep the moral implications of caving by claiming it's a staff safety decision.

To ensure this never happens again, Starmer should once again ignore the foreign service Mandarins and to go with his gut.

Welcome, Ambassador.

I wish we'd spent 2022-24 living under the Biden foreign policy regime that exists exclusively in Republican talking points.
