i've been in a school for software engineering for 2 years and it has been wild and terrifying to see the same people go from asking an LLM google-like questions occasionally to being absolutely incapable of doing anything without it

ive been haging out at / attending open source tech events like meetups and conferences and have arrived at 2 conclusions: 1) adult nerds, like teenage nerds many tears ago, find me delightful and 2) this is the closest i've been in my life to feeling true belonging in a community

i've been thinking about this and i think it's the general nostalgia that's inevitable in the autumn and the fact that world of warcraft was a very important place during my teens

it probably stems from a very deep rooted arrogance but something that has saved me from a lot of embarrassment and moral discomfort is i'm just not a fan. i hate the "fan" thing altogether. if i realize i'm becoming a "fan" of someone i just stop
