My quote of the day

If you want to preserve democracy as we know it, you have to have a free and many times adversarial press. And without it, I am afraid that we would lose so much of our individual liberties over time. That's how dictators get started.

Excellent video. We need all Dem reps doing stuff like this.

Lawmakers locked out by Mike Johnson.

No votes, no negotiations, because of Mike Johnson.

We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.

This Friday, where will you be?

Over the last several weeks, we have seen significant threats to funding and agency programs that are essential to the astronomical sciences. We need your voice to urge Congress to support robust, uninterrupted funding to enable world-leading science through NASA, NSF, and the DOE Office of Science. Every voice counts.

It doesn't feel entirely coincidental that last year FL (among other states) instituted post-tenure review guidelines requiring faculty to obtain federal funding to keep their jobs... and then made federal funding for certain kinds of research illegal.

The most crucial variable in addressing climate change is *TIME*. Early solutions accumulate impact; delayed solutions don't.

That's why we talk about the "time value of carbon" and the need to pull "Emergency Brakes" to get back on track with climate change.

And funders need to focus on this.
