A Meta-analytic Review of the Effectiveness of Spacing and Retrieval Practice for Mathematics Learning - Educational Psychology Review
Spaced retrieval practice harnesses two well-studied phenomena: the spacing effect, where spacing out practice over several sessions leads to a gain in retention compared to massed practice in one ses...

Landed back in the UK. Definitely learnt a lot working with Steven Pan’s lab on our pretesting project. Also, managed to eat exceptionally well on a budget in the Hawker Centres too!

Memory-sky: I'm going to be teaching a new (open!) grad course in the spring, where we read about and implement some memory models (and ideally for them to some small datasets). Looking for suggestions to include!

I could go "classic" (Hopfield nets, SAM, TCM, etc.), or "modern" with newer stuff 🤔

Having a great time on a EPS study visit to the National University of Singapore - this cat is permanently chilling outside the Psychology building - many signs saying not to feed him as he’s getting too chonky

Call for teachers to participate in online survey: My dissertation student is exploring the experiences of Additional Support Needs (ASN) teachers on using learning strategies in everyday classrooms. Survey takes 30 minutes and is anonymous.

Maths undergrad into
teacher training to teach Maths. Taught for a while then switched to a masters Psychology in Education (conversion course) and now a PhD in Psychology looking at spaced retrieval practice
Question:
If you have a degree beyond your undergraduate degree, did you switch disciplines/fields? If so, what was the progression of your disciplines? Example: I am a chemical engineer (undergraduate) turned economist of technical change (Masters) turned political scientist/human geographer (PhD)

Great talk from @akiraoc.bsky.social yesterday on jamais vu, winning the Ig Nobel award, and who does(n't) enter the psychological "canon". He even has a book out about the latter topic, so get buying and reading!
