Anyway, if you want to follow people like me who are actively confronting racist pseudoscience and want to hound them into starting a nonprofit that can structure and support this vital work, check out this starter pack from my friend @jowiph.bsky.social

I decided to go ahead and make a starter pack of historians, scientists, and others who work on scientific racism. If you’d like to be added to the pack (or removed from it), let me know.

Thanks much. Hope the paper advances the conversation.

This clarity and the ability of the ICM to be clearly shown to be wrong is a virtue worth emulating in other work that seeks to connect development, variation, and evolution. We can encourage this spirit by taking the rejection of popular and appealing theories a bit more seriously. 22/22

This uncritical acceptance of artifacts is a shame as many models of the evolution of morphology cannot be expressed in anywhere near as clear a form as can the ICM. In being permissive of such an expression the ICM provides falsifiable predictions. 21/22

The literature dealing with the ICM features many critically minded studies that flesh out and falsify one or another of its predictions. These seem to have been overwhelmed by studies that accept and run with the artifactual results to the detriment of advancing the field. 20/22

So, there is no basis for thinking that the ICM describes any of the development, variation, and/or evolution of molar teeth or any other serially occurring structure. That we were able to demonstrate this in a simple and straightforward way points to a virtue of the ICM. 19/22

Or well by the impressionistic eyeball standard that prevails in the ICM literature as no one took the time to point out that the result was driven by an artifact or to work up the proper statistical expectations for the ICM on the 1st element standardized scale. 18/22

We substantiate our claim that much of the ICM literature is driven by an artifact of standardization using evolutionary simulations and data from a non-developmental serial system: The 2024 Formula 1 season race results, which fit the ICM expectations well. 17/22
