Just heard a story from a friend who works in a different company. Apparently, they judge their dev team's output according to the number of lines of code they write. Amazingly, one dev recently got in trouble for his optimisation work, which removed a few hundred lines.

Yesterday I built a Go web app that served an embedded static next.js site for the UI. It was glorious.
Today I tried to run the nextjs build again and got a hundred npm errors.
