Absolutely devastating account of the CSU's $17 million capitulation to ChatGPT, from a fellow faculty member watching it happen www.currentaffairs.org/news/ai-is-d...
AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

Sometimes I just think about how much I wish sb wrote books in the same niche as Jean Auel but without all the ways it fails the vibe check on consent, creepiness, racism etc.

Willing this into existence.

Cherishing all the moments together. I love the chirpy hrrrmph he makes when wife or I approach him. Such a treasure of a cat.

I was lukewarm on s1 of A Man on the Inside but inhaled s2. I'm a sucker for rl couples playing love interests or nemeses. The vibes were immaculate, new cast was great, setting was compelling, I want three more seasons.

Wydatki budżetu sięgają wg szacunków 8-9 mld zł rocznie, a przychody z podatków i składek, jakie płacą Ukraińcy, dają nawet 17 mld zł.

TW pet illness, cancer, death

Mamut our darling has been dxed with a likely aggressive form of lymphoma (due to his poor rbc we were advised against running more invasive tests). His prognosis is poor if vague. Yet he seems fine - his perceptible symptoms are mild, and could easily be missed.

His royal cattenness, Mamut.

Can't do a full Camerimage experience this year because (on top of work existing) Mamut is having an existential crisis (sudden worsening of separation anxiety manifesting in IBD flareups) but we saw Raptures (2025) and we loved it.

Favourite new Florence tracks: Perfume and Milk + Music by Men. Absolutely amazing.

You Can Have It All reminds me of sth I can't put my finger on and that is A Difficult Experience.

Today's Clues by Sam was not Evil, it was something else that's worse than evil. Overcooked brussel sprouts.

Loved the first ep of Pluribus but found myself annoyed by the second one's portrayal of the world / Non-USians. The Americanness gets called out, and yet... the whole thing grew US-centric in a way that felt alienating and like a throw-back.

(Willing to be charmed again by episodes to come.)

They were, of course, fighting five minutes later. Siblings, eh.

Lost track of Spooktober writeups almost immediately between catching COVID and then Mamut's health deterioration (saga ongoing, alas). But we've been catching up on:
Final Destinations
A bunch of Carpenter movies
A bunch of King adaptations
And re-watched Ushers, Bly Manor -> started Midnight Mass

Watched an act of utter criminality: a great tit landed on the windowsill and raided our window spider's larder for spoils. Threw a dissicated wasp down, picked a juicy fly and flew off with it.

Covid+ five days after my booster ;___; two days after first day of classes.

Spooktober thread:
October 1: finished SK's Four Past Midnight (The Library Policeman was terrifying and great, Langoliers silly fun).
Watched IT Part 1 / Chapter 2. The kid cast is great. The changes are a mixed bag. More queerness, yes. Less heroic Bev and Losers having less moral stamina, nope.

Knocked flat by my covid jab (fever, aches, malaise). Went like: surely last year I had no such symptoms.

Groupchat from last year: identical symptoms.

Well. At least I'm consistent.

Who is this bear to wish me buona fortuna.

(This is very funny if you are as obsessed with Boardwalk Empire as this household.)

This is bad cat behavior that I 100% should not encourage but it's also cute so here we are.

Ronja the shark.

Enjoyed The Long Walk, its brutality and production, but wish they trusted the audience more to read between the lines and interpret. Still: lovely in how it makes you care about these men used by the state and nation for fodder and entertainment. Affecting and gruesome.
