It's a mindfuck, knowing he likely has months-at-best to live (and possibly much less) yet having him behave mostly as usual. Pre-grieving. Making memories. Treating symptoms. Spoiling him by letting him walk the stairs to the next floor, supervised. Discussing euthanasia with the vet to prepare.

Plastic-wrapped packet of tissues is the toy of choice for my oldest. He loves to murder them (does not eat the plastic but does bite through it).

As a joke before the arrival of a guest with whom we're doing a Stephen King readathon, we printed out a few SK photos and taped them around the apartment.

A kestrel in flight and her two siblings in their AC vent nest. Not pictured but observed: her uncle flying to the nest in another vent, some small prey in his claws. Her landing in the vent and all three keses chirping/screeching loudly. Her pooping mid-flight (with much energy).

Mamut is officially 8 years old as of yesterday (though we suspect he may be older than the shelter said - they had him down as a two-year-old, he had the vibe of an older cat).
He is a hooligan and scares easily and has separation anxiety and bites. With intent. We love him so much.
