Then, they turn their attentions to Gotham's at-the-death golazo to get them past the Orlando Pride. This game was a tough watch! Can Gotham rely on more offense than Jaedyn Shaw golazos in the Championship?

Christine Sinclair feels like the outlier rather than the norm re: when élites finally hit that wall.

I guess if there wasn't the immediate injury issue—and/or Press was unequivocally one of the four best available attackers on the team—then I could more easily align with the idea that she got jobbed. But even generational talents hit an age-and-health-related wall.
November 3, 2025 at 4:36 AM
And I'm not sure Parsons, Laity and Straus blew it—for the team or for the young talent Press was mentoring—by not playing Press more.

It sucks that Press's career ended this way. She doesn't deserve it. But sports are cruel and unforgiving to athletes in this part of their careers, none moreso than those who dealt with the injuries Press dealt with. (con't)

There are not a lot of 36-year-old everyday forwards/no. 10s in recent NWSL history. Sinclair, Lloyd, Marta, Rapinoe and Press jump to mind. Only Press had to return from two years off the pitch and four surgeries of ACL repair to play her age-36 season. (con't)
November 3, 2025 at 4:14 AM
How much education and personal growth did those young attackers lose by not playing beside her for 700-1,000 minutes in the 2nd half of the season instead of 300? How many goals were lost because Press wasn't on the field to score or facilitate them? I find those questions tougher to answer. (cont)
November 3, 2025 at 4:14 AM
That's the part I'm struggling to see. Nobody doubts Press's locker room presence, or the off-field value she held (and will continue to hold) with the younger attackers on the training pitch. (con't)

I don't know if it's nefarious or not, but if she remained as good and as vital to Angel City's project in 2025 as you have claimed, then Parsons, Laity and Straus must have all gotten something very wrong, either from obtuseness, incompetence, or otherwise. (con't)
