Sometimes, there are good things out there for us, and I’m choosing to lean into that, scary though it may be.

My anarchist principles notwithstanding, if there must be a state, its sole purpose should be to prevent people from doing this.

Not this year, but yes. My family owns a cabin about an hour north of the town I grew up in, and I always ask if I can stay there when I’m in town. Sure it’s an hour drive, but my mom and I enjoy our time together more when we get some time apart so I think she’s accepted that’s for the best.

And even if you do (for instance, I’m a senior security engineer with extensive experience in embedded hardware vuln management) you can still be turned down if you meet certain arbitrary criteria (I have ADHD/autism, which would disqualify me in many countries)!

Brunch on a workday seems ostentatious.

I like it.

I vacuumed my office/music room first and now it’s almost noon so it’s not even breakfast soup anymore!

(It’s probably because I’m chilly and instead of doing the reasonable thing and putting on a hoodie, I’m fixating on warm, delicious, comforting soup instead)

And beyond not going, you get to have the adventure of figuring out what *you* want *your* holidays to look like! You get them to be anything you want! You can start a Friendsgiving, make a totally non-traditional dish or even just order takeout and watch your favorite movies! You can do anything!

I haven’t gone home to see family in years and I’ve never regretted it. Even after I became single and spent a lot of holidays alone, I started a tradition of cooking massive meals and then bringing leftovers to unhoused people in my neighborhood. I was far happier than I’d have been with family.

Okay it is definitely a worse offense to have not told you about it 😂

Part of the reason I can’t actually start this repo is that I’d spend the next week filing bug reports against the human nervous system, since the one I’m in possession of is becoming more of a rickety piece of shit by the day.

(I actually do think it would be cool to have a repository of self-reported bugs and people chiming in to share their experiences with the same bug because researchers interested in those specific systems could use it to identify potential research topics, but I doubt it’d get used that way)

I keep threatening to start a GitHub repo for ‘the human body’ so people can file bug reports, because Jesus Christ it’s so buggy.
