That none of you have hired Hazel yet tells me that the games industry is run by buffoons
Heading into 2026, I'm still looking for fulltime or contract work as a senior writer or narrative designer. If you need someone who can write sharp characters, poetic prose, and emotional stories, I'm available! You can find my portfolio here: www.hazelmonforton.com

you can def network vertically, but prioritize networking horizontally

surround yourself with kind, hardworking, and talented friends, and it’s only a matter of time before your careers go places

also: if you can’t take an opportunity, pass it on to a friend who’d do just as well if not better
Just gonna say this again for games sphere cus we get the same question:

Networking doesn't mean schmoozing up to famous people, it means making friends with your peers. Then in 10 years, 20, one of you might be famous? And sure you're still helping each other cus well yeah friends.

Make. Friends.
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.

I'll post here as well, for the new Bluesky folks (or those that did not know of the feature), Logged-out visibility

"Discourage apps from showing my account to logged-out users.
Bluesky will not show your profile and posts to logged-out users."
This does not make your account private.

The way stuff gets around on bsky is more like tumblr (reblogs and tags) than an algorithm pushing posts.

Like tumblr, hashtags are used for looking through people's work. Press and hold a tag to get options

You can also post links without getting deboosted

For all the new artists joining Bluesky:

🎨 You don't have to censor words such as commission, Patreon or Ko-Fi.

🎨 You can share links and your post will not be de-boosted.

🎨 You can take time away from Bluesky and come back whenever you feel like, there's no algorithm to punish you!

Still, happy holidays are holidays of the happier variety. Hopefully. :B

The confusion and conflation of ‘generative ai that is built on stolen artwork’ and ‘machine learning, character behaviour modelling and proc gen’ is intentional on the part of the grifters peddling the former. They benefit from murkiness of classification, because the latter predates their bollocks

I dunno who needs to hear this but using AI at your Early Concept phase, or for ideation, is literally the worst place to deploy it

It isn't creative, what it does is hand back tropes. That's what the model does: sift for likely responses to an input

It's like building your foundation out of memes

I voice 14 different characters in THE ELEPHANT on HBO Max, this was one of the most unique, fascinating projects i've ever worked on, three different teams led by Pendleton Ward, Rebecca Sugar + Ian Jones-Quartey, and Patrick McHale all contributed segments without ever seeing the others (1/2)

I don’t think Larian understood that when they casually talk about their use of genAI it wasn’t spoken into a board room or a zoom call full of people thinking about numbers, it was to a host of fans who looked to them as an example of humanity and art persisting in spite of things like that.

wrong

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.
