Bad, bad news: More data is being lost. This is not a good sign heading into Hurricane Season. Weather service offices are severely understaffed and underfunded. Weather data will continue to be degraded across the United States. This is unacceptable. We should be funding more…

Well, look at this: When you push, it happens. Three North Carolina house reps have introduced a bill to fund/improve and modernize the NWS. I pushed for this in DC. @RepDeborahRoss said she would try to work with NC representatives on finding a bill. I hope this bill advances.

It's absolutely insane. More National Weather Service offices are suspending or limiting weather balloon launching due to staffing cuts. This could impact weather modeling, which we don’t need. In the weather world, we need more data, not less.

I will always advocate for the industry I care about so deeply and for the people who rely on accurate forecasting to stay safe. Here’s more of my message.

This situation has deeply impacted me, both personally and professionally, as many of my friends and colleagues have lost their jobs. While I have no interest in politics, I do believe in standing up for the weather community and the vital work we do.

Rep. Eric Sorensen of Illinois staff, the only meteorologist in Congress, and Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii staff, who has introduced bipartisan legislation this week to support and protect the National Weather Service.

I personally met with—or spoke with staff from—the offices of Rep. Deborah Ross (NC-02), Rep. Richard Hudson (NC-09), Sen. Ted Budd, Rep. Valerie Foushee (NC-04), Rep. Greg Murphy (NC-03), and Rep. David Rouzer. (NC-03). I also met with

The vast majority of the lawmakers I spoke to didn’t know cuts were happening at NOAA/NWS as they were told it wasn’t going to happen. I just kept advocating and fighting.

It’s been hard to come up with words regarding the situation at NWS/NOAA the last few days. Roughly 1k meteorologists have been fired, and this will have profound impacts. I just got back from two days in DC fighting for NOAA/NWS. I met with over 12 lawmakers. I am very mad.

I am back at the US Capitol meeting with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle despite the news of the firings of 100s of meteorologists from the National Weather Service and NOAA. I’m going to continue to fight for our close-knit weather community. Everything NWS does matter!

On the way to the US Capitol to meet with lawmakers, it's time to fight for NWS/NOAA and science! 👏🏻 #ncpol #ncwx

I’ve been very clear about my unwavering support for the National Weather Service and NOAA. Please see my letter from my Weather page, North Carolina’s Weather Authority, to North Carolina senators and other representatives. #ncwx #ncpol

Hurricane Helene: It’s been three months since Hurricane Helene, and this is what US-19 W looks like in Ramseytown Yancey County. Progress is being made, but it’ll be several years before all roads are completely rebuilt. Don’t forget about Western North Carolina. #wncrelief
