Sleep is a biological necessity, and sleep deprivation has real physical, psychological, and social consequences that need to be taken seriously. The way our society treats it as slothful to sleep according to natural rhythms (including midday naps and variant chronotypes like night owls) is evil.

My name is Chu. I've identified as asexual for many years. I'm not sure when I first heard the term and applied it to myself. But something about it didn't fit. I couldn't quite put my finger on why. An asexual person is someone who does not feel sexually attracted to other people. "That's me!" This gives us an unfair and inaccurate reputation as being cold freaks of nature who can't feel love. "(Thought I saw a quarter around here...)" When I see other asexual people defend themselves in articles and interviews, their counterargument to those assumptions is usually something like... "But I have a boyfriend!" "I like dating!" "I've had many sexual relationships!" "We're married!" Which is TOTALLY FINE, but... ...that ain't me. I've never been in a relationship, or even on a single date, in my entire life! I haven't been rejected. It's not a matter of being shy. I just never paid that sorta stuff much mind. Who cares about that when I have comics to make and video games to play? The only times I really care are when outside forces made me feel self-conscious. "Don't worry, you'll find someone eventually!" "Oh, I'm not worried." "You just haven't found the right person!" "I also ain't looking!" There was one time when my mom kept asking me if I "liked" anyone. She wasn't satisfied with "no". She even assured me that it would be okay if I wanted to confess that I was actually a lesbian. "UH..." I appreciated the sentiment. There are millions of gay people who never got that kind of acceptance from their family. "But... That ain't me!" I'm extroverted. I like going ot to meet people and make new friends. "Hi!" "Hey!" "Yo!" "Konnichiwa!" "'Sup!" No matter where I lived, I had no trouble becoming a part of a new network of friends. Whenever I travel to conventions for my work as a cartoonist, I make even more pals-- and I KEEP them! There were times I tried mentally flipping a "romance switch" to see if anything would happen between me and friends I felt really close to. Could I see my best friends in a different light? NOPE! I never felt anything different. "Wanna play a video game?" "Sure!" And so it went until I read "The Invisible Orientation" by Julie Sondra Decker in 2016. Aromanticism: People who are not romantically attracted to others are called aromantic. "OH SNAP! IT ME!"

I hope everyone knows that it's very easy for any social content platform, including Bluesky, to be a misery machine and that if you aren't intentional about it, they will absolutely decrease the positive impact you have on the world while making you less happy.

Some old doodles I made

In the top-left corner, there's a doodle of a strange pincer-like structure with a large, stocky claw at its left end & a longer, seemingly jointed claw around its middle. There are 3 other doodles of a lobster/centaur-like creature with a squid-like face and with 2 of the aforementioned pincers on long arms. The top-right, center-bottom and bottom-right show it standing, sleeping, and rearing its arms for attack, respectively. A side-view of a spaceship with a tall, curved triangular front that tapers to a longer, shorter shape in the back. It has 1 visible reverse-L-shaped wing, 3 small visible guns, 1 missile launcher on top of the ship, and 2 visible thrusters. Near the back there is a long oval-shaped structure with stripes, one of which has glyphs running down its length, and another having glyphs that stop a third of the way through (presumably because I got tired of drawing them). To the bottom-right of the side view, there is a front view which lacks some of the side view's detail but clearly demonstrates that the spaceship has two wings. Doodles of some strange worm-like creature with a large head with 2 eyes, 2 mid-body segments, a posterior fin, and 2 small wing-like structures on the top of each segment, save for the posterior. There is a normal side view doodle, a normal front view doodle, and a side view doodle where it opens its wide, gaping mouth that is otherwise invisible. The side view also lacks 4 of the wings for some reason. Doodles of some bird-like creature with a roughly pear-shaped body, 2 long legs, and a very large beak. It is shown in a walking pose, a standing pose, a sneaking pose, and some sort of leaping pose.

Philomatry (“love of the motherland”) is the term that describes non-dispersing diaspores. Salvia roemeriana produces outcrossed, high-dispersal fruits AND selfed, low-dispersal fruits. Low-dispersing diaspores are well adapted to the local environment. #Lamiaceae #dispersal #botany 🌾🧪🌱

Another sweet little Lichenomphalia (L. alpina, I think) mushroom and its very visible thallus of green algae and fungal hyphae. Lichenomphalia species are basidiolichens. This little guy was about 2cm high. Newfoundland, Canada. #lichens #fungifriends

Figured I should probably post on this site more often than centennially, so while I'm (metaphorically) throwing sketches at the dartboard, have whatever this is.

Hello everyone. I've been lurking for a while now ever since I made this account, since I was moving when I made it. Not much time to draw as a result..
Still going through that process but in the meantime, have some old plant sketches.
Rough purple-ink pen sketch of what I guessed was Galanthus nivalis AKA snowdrop at the time I drew it, on lined notebook paper. Most of the leaves are pointing upward with a slight diagonal curve, while 2 are drooping somewhat. One of them is further away to the left and slightly twisted. There is a single flower hanging from its stalk. A small, cropped portion of another sketch is visible near the top of the image. A rough, purple-ink sketch of what I guessed was Ajuga reptans at the time I drew it, known as a variety of bugle-related common names, on lined notebook paper. Its bilaterally symmetric flowers have a veined texture on the inside of its corolla, while the outside of its corolla is smooth & hairy. Stamens/pistils are visibly sticking out of the flowers' vase-like structure. The flowers are packed together in a raceme, below which there are (relatively) large, deeply veined leaves. There appears to be some kind of damage on the raceme's top.
