Or at least you’ll find who COULD call all the shots if they wanted to. But it’s not likely since most of healthcare has checks and balances and regulations and penalties in place (I do have some faith in the system 🙃).

Key company profiles: UnitedHealth Group's approach to vertical consolidation
Today's post is the first of a new series we're launching on key players in healthcare vertical consolidation. And that's because nearly everyone in healthcare will come into contact with these orgs. Often, in fact. They are your customers, your acquirers, your competitors. But in many people's minds, they often occupy that same paradoxical space as the U.S. government: simultaneously omnipotent and incompetent, against whom resistance is futile, and yet also lumbering and inflexible. But does t

And within Optum, they have three different arms (arguably four, if you include Optum Ventures) that have done MAJOR mergers and acquisitions or funding.

And all of this doesn’t translate into a monopoly, but instead its power and influence. Follow the money + see who’s calling the shots… 5/6

each step of producing and selling blankets.

This is the strategy that UHG is employing to grow their profits and diversify their company and portfolio.

As an example, they don’t just provide health insurance (United Healthcare). They also provide healthcare services through Optum… 4/6

Perhaps this is why the memes are going over my head because at most the CEO represented the profit-hungry health insurance industry.

There’s so much more to healthcare than just insurance companies, but for people they are a HUGEEEE influencing factor so I can see why people make the connection

loved both episodes tonight! Very funny - I’m curious to know who o can thank for writing the jokes about Gregory needing a hair cut? Those moments were hilarious

But there’s a greater lesson here too -

We just saw South Korean politicians climb over barricades to contest martial law…

Some things may be difficult but it doesn’t mean that they can’t be done.

I expect that this mindset and mental fortitude I’m building now will help me in the long run.

Power as in will, determination, strength, fortitude etc.

My exercise in walking for 90+ minutes/8k steps has forced me to confront uncomfortable physical feelings like muscle soreness, aching, and even sweating (I hate sweating). And I’ve had to push past these feelings in order to meet my goal.
