The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion, after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year alone.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country is getting squeezed by tariffs and high prices for groceries, utilities, and health care.

Trump's economy.

@weissmann.substack.com I know anyone who was just listening laughed as loud as I did. This guy is out of his mind. Thanks for doing the good work, Andrew.

I understood your point earlier about the shootings in Chicago over labor day weekend. But don't fall into their trap, Labor and Memorial Day weekends are historically the bloodiest in Chicago. This year though, down 40 percent. They picked this week strategically.

The number of manifestly psychologically unwell people in the highest levels of this administration should be unsettling to the world.
Most of this “press conference” is this lunatic yelling at the media. This guy is so obsessed with his press coverage that he can’t even function.

Remember when the news was boring. When you could go for an extended period of time and be sure no terrible thing was happening. Now he is always at the center of attention trolling for controversy and outrage over ridiculous lies and false claims. He is the epitome of fake news.

Outrageous: ICE agents arrested a former U.S. Army interpreter who risked his life aiding American troops in Afghanistan, right after his asylum hearing in San Diego.

The interpreter legally entered the U.S. after the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Andrew Sullivan: “Once you grasp Trump as an elected monarch, his full rebuke to the very idea of America comes into clearer view.

He is precisely — almost uncannily — what this country was founded to oppose: an arbitrary, corrupt, mendacious, and utterly incompetent king”

The Social Security Administration is now wrongly informing some SSI recipients they are no longer receiving benefits.

This comes as agency cuts have led to repeated website crashes and overwhelmed phone lines.

This is what DOGE's "efficiency" looks like.

Trump Signs Executive Orders Aimed at Reviving U.S. Coal Industry
The moves include loosening environmental rules, but it is unclear how much they can help reverse the sharp decline in coal power over the last two decades.

Research is political. Universities rolling over are political. Researchers fighting back are also political. You do politics or politics does you, so choose good politics and practice them accordingly.
NEW: Researchers have sued the NIH and HHS, alleging that they have engaged in a "reckless and illegal purge to stamp out NIH-funded research that addresses topics and populations that they disfavor" by terminating hundreds of grants, violating the APA, Fifth Amendment and the Separation of Powers.

@booker.senate.gov made history yesterday.

He made genuinely “good trouble.”

During his brilliant record-breaking filibuster, he asked “Where does the Constitution live, on paper or in our hearts?”

All of us are called in our own way to answer that question by our actions, not just our words.

Important discussion here on why it is so dangerous to fire scientists at the FDa, CDC, and NIH from one day to the next. I have a lab and I have to follow procedures for working with and storing chemicals and biological samples. And don’t work with pathogens!
