This is one of the bank shift job adverts sent to me. You can see clearly in the notes the role is "corridor RN"

Academic clinicians, I’m preparing a report on why professionals need more than 2 years training to be competent and safe. I’d welcome suggestions of articles on the complexity of clinical knowledge and how it is acquired. Thanks if you can recommend any (I have my own obvs). #medsky #academicsky

Trial high dose nasal corticosteroids for 2 weeks with saline rinses.
Ear exam is normal -I’ll refer you for an audiogram.

How much nonsense did that just save?

Also I can think of better use for an ENT reg’s time than holding MDMs with various members of the primary care team to decide whether to make an ENT referral in the first place. Training is short and there’s a lot to cover!

The Green party have 4 MPs and have made HUGE GE and council gains.

Yet all we see in the media is about the far-right circus that is Reform UK.

The media are gagging for a far-right victory and it's sickening.

Me too. Wikipedia is the internet's single most valuable contribution to human knowledge. It's clearly galling for Musk that he can't turn it into another billionaire-owned misinformation machine.
I understand Elon Musk is trying to get people to stop donating to Wikipedia, which reminded me that I hadn't yet made my usual annual donation to Wikipedia, so now that's been taken care of

The cards are on the table.

After years of suppressing discussion, ignoring concerns & saying not GMC/NHSE remit to set scope, GMC don’t miss a beat immediately advocating for less defined scope when someone else does it.

GMC continue to do a disservice to everyone involved, including AAs.

“But its support of NHS, GMC and government plans for PAs placed (RCP) in direct opposition to its members.

This was a sobering reminder to membership organisations that steer their hubristic agendas away from their members.”

The GMC attempts to subvert & overturn the defined Scope set for PAs & AAs by Royal Colleges of Anaesthetists and RC of Physicians after previously refusing to set any ceiling of practise for them and redirecting the responsibility to the RCs & Specialism Societys. Now it attacks the Scope they set!

Royal College of Anaesthetists has done an excellent job setting scope for AAs.

But the GMC want it done differently.

Nice story this.

8 kids from Gaza with complex medical needs arrived in Ireland last night for treatment.

A total of 30 are expected to arrive for medical care in Ireland on the scheme organised by the Depts of Health and Foreign Affairs and the Irish Red Cross

Hopeful noises coming out of GP/Govt contract negotiations - but there's a lot more still to do. Glad continuity of care is finally a buzzword (buzzphrase?)
Some concerns that all the money so far announced might be swallowed up by ⬆️costs (NICs, NMW etc). Huge gratitude to KBS @the-bma.bsky.social

Story time:
We had a patient admitted to the PICU admitted with recurrent fevers despite multiple broad spectrum IV antibiotics. They could not communicate well at baseline and their blood cultures were negative. After a few days we decided to consult ID.

Gotta praise those attendings.

Lots of unnecessary testing could be avoided with a good physical exam - or actually any at all.

Absolute highlight of 2024 Congress for me ✨

Please give it a listen if you missed it in person!

We (both men and women!) need to be discussing this more to make sure there are less barriers to the best people being where they need to be in order to effect change 🗣️

More GPs needed
But there has been a 20% cut in funding

GPs / Social care / 3rd sector has been hit by NI employers tax rise & staff costs
