Super happy to see our paper out! Reference choice matters, especially if you work with species that has lots of chromosomal rearrangements 🧬🐟

A while back (maybe 3-4 years?) there was a paper on common misconceptions of the genetics of various traits. One of them was eye colour in humans. I have lost this reference and can't find it anywhere. Does anyone recognise what I mean?

Our paper is now published in GBE!

We find that transposable elements (likely) facilitated several large chromosomal inversions in Atlantic cod.

So proud of the work by our team!

Chromosomal Inversions Mediated by Tandem Insertions of Transposable Elements
Abstract. Chromosomal inversions play a crucial role in evolution by influencing phenotypes through the linkage of coadapted alleles. While inversions have

Nice to see this preprint on the factors shaping Macaronesian chaffinch microbiomes out. A fantastic collaboration with @andalgalornis.bsky.social and his team. www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...
Host filtering and biogeography structure island bird gut microbiomes
Gut microbiomes are central to host ecology and evolution, yet the mechanisms driving their diversification remain elusive, partly because host evolution and biogeography are often confounded. The rec...

#eseb2025 talks were great so far. Subjective ranking of the most common quotes:
- theory and modeling: "with this very simple approach"
- genomics: "using methodology you all know"
- plenaries: "Nature/Science" in the bottom right of a slide
- posters: "una cerveza por favor"

Complex patterns of hitchhiking mutation load among stickleback populations
Positive selection causes beneficial alleles to rapidly rise to high frequency in a population. This can cause linked genetic variation to " hitchhike " , and thereby also rise in frequency. This link...

Some years ago I wrote a simple R app to explore colors in HCL space. While it's clunky, it still is my preferred way of selecting colors, because it offers features other color selectors don't normally have. Today, thanks to shinylive, the app is available standalone. 🧵

Looking for someone to review a manuscript? Is it on avian urban-rural ecology/evolution, dietary adaptation, or dietary analysis using metabarcoding or stable isotope analysis? Then please send me a request. I am looking for an opportunity to review a manuscript with a PhD for training purposes.

My very first publication here and for a great reason 🎉
It was lovely to interact with @homerej.bsky.social during my time at the Technical University of Denmark. It is even better to see his article now out 🦪 🧬 📄
🦪 Out yesterday some genome-wide work on the native European flat oyster , Ostrea edulis. Once widespread along European coasts but is now functionally extinct due to overfishing and disease. Threads 1/n 🦪
