Journalist obsessed with music, movies, sports.
Amy Berg’s documentary “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley” is beautiful, inspiring and heartbreaking.
Like his music.

One of the aspects of Jimmy Page’s musicianship that I’ve always found most extraordinary is his absolute mastery of acoustic guitars.
I’m listening to “Houses of the Holy” today and the way Page incorporates acoustic guitar into the album’s musical landscape is enthralling to me.

There are dozens of factors that contributed to my becoming a journalist.
Belva Davis’ groundbreaking work as a journalist in my native Bay Area during my formative years is one of those factors.

Rest in peace … and thanks

If a list of the greatest rock guitarists doesn’t include Uli Jon Roth … it is a woefully incomplete list

Music that never fails to put a smile on my face, even when I can’t understand the words.

I’ve always been a Giants fan but I’ve also always respected Ryne Sandberg and his approach to the game.

#Superman … but it’s really only Clark Kent covering a succession of night meetings, filling Freedom of Information Act requests and eating lunch at his desk because he’s stressed about a source not returning his call.

Listening to Santana this morning and speculating about how the band’s music might have evolved if Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie hadn’t left to form Journey.
The musicianship of Santana is remarkable — regardless of the lineups

People of a certain age from Northern California remember Stan Atkinson (1932-2025) as an icon of local broadcast news. He won multiple Emmys but more importantly he earned the trust of his many viewers. RIP

Mourning the passing of Brian Glanville (1931-2025). His writing brought football and its history to life for me when I was first learning about the game.

The 2025 remastered “Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII” is fantastic — especially while wearing headphones.
The version of “One of These Days” is one of the top tracks.

King Crimson’s “Lizard” combines so many fine elements — Robert Fripp’s guitar, Gordon Haskell’s vocals, Andy McCulloch’s drums, Mel Collins’ sax and flute — it’s a treat for the ears and rewards repeated listening.
Plus Jon Anderson guests!
