Chamboi the rhino and Twiggy the giraffe have been walking buddies for a long time. This evening stroll reminded us of a similar scene from exactly a year ago: Chamboi has grown outwards and Twiggy upwards over the past 12 months, but they still enjoy each other’s company enormously!

It's all smiles in Nairobi, as the rescued orphan elephants enjoy the spoils of the rains! We've seen trunk splashing, water kicking, and a lot of puddle based climbing games.

Weka looks proud as punch to have successfully pinned her friend Kamili for a three count!

Meet Maxwell, the black rhino who’s captured hearts at our Nursery since 2007. Found blind and alone in Nairobi National Park, he couldn’t survive in the wild — but with us, he thrives in comfort and care.

Chamboi is a critically endangered black rhino, part of a global population of just over 6,000. Orphaned as a newborn, he has a home and family with us for as long as he needs it.

When he's ready, he'll reclaim his place in the wild.

Mischief, times two! Lenny and Sulwe aren’t related by birth — their mothers, Lima Lima and Sonje, are both orphans rescued and raised through our Orphans’ Project — but they could be mistaken for twins.

Protecting this landscape takes a dedicated team both on the ground and in the sky.

Last year, our Aerial Unit flew over 303,985 km, monitoring wildlife , responding to emergencies, shepherding elephants off community land into protected areas, and ensuring Kenya remains a stronghold for wildlife.

Pausing to nibble on patches of grass, rescued orphan giraffe Twiggy is in no rush on her morning walk! It's a win-win, Twiggy enjoys a green treat and we reap the benefits of a natural lawn mower on the airstrip!

Fortunately, Twiggy’s not one for mud baths. If she was, this adorable shared bathing session between Chamboi the rhino and Mr Bean the warthog, would have descended into chaos!

For Chamboi, nothing beats a giant pile of red soil! With determined little horn digs, tosses, and rolls, he turns the mound into his own personal playground. A dust bath, a digging site, and a perfect spot for fun—what more could a baby rhino ask for?

Mbegu’s past could have broken her. Orphaned in tragic circumstances, she was speared and stoned by a frightened community. Now, she’s a leader among the Voi herd, guiding her peers. And, on the occasions where she's not in demand, a moments 'me time' at the dust bath!

Max breaks the mould, being our only longterm resident at the Nairobi Nursery. Rescued as an orphan in February 2007, he is irreversibly blind. For this reason, he can never be safely rewilded.

Born on Christmas Day 2024, Sulwe is the 70th known calf to be born to an orphan we have rescued and raised, in her case, mothered by Sonje.

Our favourite bickering siblings (of sorts), Sulwe (left) and Lenny (right), are constantly trying to outwit and outshine each other. They turn the midday milk feed into a fierce race to the finish line, stout legs pumping and ears flapping. It’s far too contentious to pick a winner so it's a draw!
