That smile when you hit your 50th new ride for your 50th year at the top of Destroying Angel, part of the Copper City trail system outside Three Forks, Montana. Huge views from up here. I counted seven different mountain ranges (but there could be more.)

Same trip, I dropped the bikepacking bags and hit a fun trail just south of Bozeman. Big views, ripping descent.

A few weeks ago, before the snow-line crept too low, a friend and I met in Bozeman for a bikepacking overnight. Cold, but beautiful.

A friend took me on a route that I’d never been on pretty close to home. Missoula just has so many great rides, it’s hard to know them all. Here’s a few pics from another 50 for 50. Beautiful sunset on golden fall foliage.

Today is the day! #farmaid40
I’m volunteering at the fest and couldn’t be more excited. If you’re a reporter interviewing one of the incredible farmers (or one of said farmers), maybe I’ll see you there.

The sometimes smooth, sometimes rip the bar out of your hands chunky eastern Montana gravel riding definitely takes its toll on your bike.

Big day riding eastern Montana farm roads. Another 50 for 50 ride wandering Carbon County.

I’ve been mountain biking since the mid-90s and this is the first time I’ve ever done lift-serv. Missoula’s Snow Bowl delivered a fun (smoky) afternoon. Maybe next year, I’ll explore more lift-service next summer.

Remember how much fun mountain biking was in the mid-to-late ‘90s? We got a good reminder this morning by hitting the trails on the Gunnar and Fuji. Steep head angles and narrow 26ers make for some rowdy good times!

Hit a bunch of trails in Boise, Idaho, including a relatively new, swoopy side-hill rip called Curlew Connection. Nice views and high-desert vibes. 50 for 50

Enjoyed an unforgettable show at the K-Hole: Death Cab for Cutie and Sea Lemon. Huge musical energy under a spectacular Montana sky.

I just finished @michaelconnelly.bsky.social ‘s Brass Verdict. It’s the 2nd in the Lincoln Lawyer series. I forgot how good these were. I’m already digging into the next one. I also just learned that it’s part of Harry Bosch’s LA, so I’m starting at the beginning with him now, too. ⚡️📚

Wildfire seen on the south side of Pattee Canyon visible from Missoula. Photo taken at Playfair Park.

The drive between Missoula and Boise is hour after (slow) hour of stunning mountains, rolling farmlands, and deep arid canyons. This is the only photo I took, but each scene was gorgeous.

Another 50450 this weekend, taking advantage of stunning weather. Climbed University Mtn and rode the Beacon Trail. These pics def don’t do the wildflowers or snow-capped peaks justice.

Solid find in a Bainbridge bookstore. Even though we arguably live in a cyberpunk dystopia (untethered corporate power, alternative and virtual realities, AI) I still love reading the stuff. 📚🪐

50 for 50 ride 3: short spur trail down to Poe Meadows off the main Rattlesnake corridor. Short but surprisingly fun, esp on a gravel bike. I’ve got to count it b/c I’ve ridden the Ratt so many times over the last 2x decades and haven’t ever tried it. Kind of embarrassing to admit.

Second 50 for 50 (50450?) ride: the climb up University Mountain Road in Missoula. I’d seen this line on maps, but never explored it. Steep with beautiful views. Rode to the snow and had to turn back before the Beacon Trail. Next time.

Back in Missoula and immediately found this little pop-up-park riding downtown. Come check it out if you’re out and about this First Friday.
Ride bikes; see stuff.

Spending a little time exploring North Carolina’s vibrant local food and regional food systems at Deep Roots Farm and Bradford Market outside Charlotte. It’s amazing how much you can grow on seven acres.

Seen on a sidewalk in Missoula. “We ❤️ Earth.”

The opening lines in @rebeccayarros.bsky.social “Fourth Wing” are some of the best I’ve read in a long while. I guess I’m reading this now. 🪐📚

Yellowstone National Park - West Entrance to Norris - Geyser Basin is the first ride of my 50 for 50. (I’ve done Mammoth to Norris before.) Moody skies and rain, but still a magical place to be.

I’m turning 50 in August, so this year I’m taking on a 50 for 50 project. I’m going to try to do 50 new bike rides this year. New mountain bike trails, gravel rides, bikepacking routes, or whatever. Wish me luck.
