BREAKING: The U.S. Coast Guard just announced they won’t classify swastikas and nooses as hate symbols anymore they’re calling them ‘potentially divisive.’ Potentially divisive? Listen, a noose isn’t a conversation starter. A swastika isn’t a debate topic. They are dangerous hate symbols. Full stop

Can you imagine any other President using the situation room NOT to protect America or our allies, but to try to come up with another way to keep the Epstein files under wraps and cover his own ass?

Good thread here highlighting the similarities but also some very important economic and political differences. One I would emphasise is that Brexit wasn’t a challenge to the rules based international trading order, whereas Trump’s chaotic tariffs are.
Interesting comparison. Brexit was the raising of non tariff barriers, leaving the EU's Single Market and Customs Union, and, to a first approximation, unchanged terms with the rest of the world. It was done in a relatively orderly, legalised fashion.
I wonder if the United States can learn anything from the last time a major industrialized country decided to isolate itself from the rest of the world?

Almost a decade after the Brexit vote, GDP in the UK is around 6-8% lower relative to peer countries. (Source: www.nber.org/papers/w34459)

Furloughing most of the workers at National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) whose mission is to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the nation's nuclear stockpile, is exactly what we should expect from the asshole who stole nuclear secrets and stored them in a bathroom.
Only 7 out of 71 employees at the Los Alamos NNSA field site are working, the rest furloughed.

At the Albuquerque site (overseeing Sandia NM), only 7/81.

"The furloughs are the [NNSA's] first since its creation in 2000, as none occurred during previous shutdowns"

I had a nightmare: Trump disappeared, Vance became president and Johnson became VP. I’m either crazy, or living in a time where fever dreams become reality.
“I don’t know” Johnson should be expelled from Congress for being a dumbass obstructionist who is willing to let his constituents go hungry.

20% of his constituents rely on SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) - which ranks among the top 50 highest rates of all congressional districts.

If Trump succeeds in resuming nuclear testing what he’s really doing is depleting an inventory of very expensive toys; toys that his friends will happily rebuild at tremendous cost.

You don’t really think he’s doing this out of a misguided sense of national security, do you?
