Nikki Giovanni understood that Black American cultural history was, in part, the inevitable result of centuries-long oppression—but that it was also the product of constant evolution, writes Hannah Giorgis:
Nikki Giovanni’s Wondrous Celebrations of Black Life
The poet’s work crackled with revolutionary fire but also contained jubilation and gentleness.

MAGA is big upset that Caitlin Clark dared to recognize the contributions of the Black women in the league because she’s aware many of them don’t receive the acknowledgment they deserve. They’re basically mad that CC isn’t the racist some of them wanted her to be. Disgraceful.

I honestly don’t get UNC hiring Bill Belichick. He’s 72. He’s never coached in college. Part of the reason Nick Saban retired is coaches don’t have the leverage they used to. I also don’t think these young players care about Bill Belichick’s legacy as much as the media does.

Here is my write up in @thenation.com about yesterday’s awful anti-trans hearing at SCOTUS.

If I made the arguments Alito and Barrett made when I was in law school, I would have gotten an F. Unless my professors were bigots like them.
The Supreme Court’s Hearing on Trans Rights Was Bigotry Masquerading as Law
The conservative majority spent much of the oral arguments for US v. Skrmetti trying to erase the trans community.

This, this and this.
A lot of people think everything will work out if we just play by the rules but don’t seem to recognize that rules only matter when everyone agrees to follow them and, well, that isn’t our present reality.

Happy 100th Birthday to my Soror, the legendary late Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm! A trailblazer who shattered barriers and made history with unapologetic strength and fierce love for the people.

Your legacy still inspires me to fight for justice, equality, and a better tomorrow.

don't order books (or anything) from Amazon today! Instead, order from a small press, Bookshop, a local bookstore, or request a book from your local library. Yes, Amazon is "easy," but it's continuing to kill local businesses and concentrate wealth.
