These are both from X-Men books. They watch Twin Peaks, and agent Val Cooper's brother, who is an FBI agent, is involved in a case about a girl wrapped in plastic. Turns out when your writers toss in pop culture asides all the time you get this nonsense!

On the other hand, reading Excalibur has been an absolute pleasure, especially when Chris Claremont or Alan Davis are on the title. Meggan is a fucking delight, and if anything bad ever happens to her I'll burn the Marvel universe to the ground

So uhhhhh.... thanks grandma.

That may or may not have been the trip I bought this toy which awakened further things in me. No idea why this all happened the one week a year I was in Pennsylvania.

Since I'm reading some 90s comics, I looked into the 90s comic bubble, and saw some Valiant comics splash page which made me think of, for the first time in decades, about Archer and Armstrong.

Huh, this art for X Factor 40 looks a touch different, I wonder who did the pencils.....NOOOOOOO

(In all seriousness he's a perfectly fine artist, just with some noticeable stylistic tics, but was the vanguard of the excesses of 90s comics which went very wrong)

I react exactly the same as She-Thing when forced to go to a parade

Neglected to take a picture before cutting so compare purple beard me from this weekend to now.

Nothing else to do today, might as well hack off a chunk of my beard

Had fun with the grizzled mountain man look for a while but time to change things up.

The silver lining is that the Dazzler book got a truly SPECTACULAR run of Bill Sienkiewicz cover art for several issues. I especially love the Thriller knockoff (in the story a director attempts to fake an on set accident for the Michael Jackson knockoff which, given it came out in 1984...too soon)

Did she follow up on the musical success with tours? No. Did she release another album? No. Did anyone even recognize her? No. Instead she gets a graphic novel where she is stalked by, (what we would now recognize as) assaulted by, and ultimately falls in love with THIS MAN.

I was briefly the meme with math over my confused face until I found out Chris Claremont just referenced singer Maddy Prior twice, once as a throwaway character and then shortly after a massively important one.

Fucking Merlin....

Dazzler continues to surprise, I figured she channeled the power of disco but it turns out she's actually powered by ...Pink Floyd?!

(Truthfully that's no surprise- her comic premiered two years after Disco Sucks/Disco Demolition Night, so the genre was already out of favor 🤓)

Dazzler is introduced the next issue - this is an exceptionally FABULOUS pair of issues- and this line about broke my brain, but she is of course referring to the Starship Troopers NOVEL, which was one of, if not the, earliest depictions of power armor.

Photos from my trip with @arcturusjackal.bsky.social down the Mohawk Trail and up to the summit of Mt Greylock today, these ones not from when we were waiting for parking

Yes, nothing like the peace and tranquility of Connecticut's state parks. Be at one with nature.

Out at Mohawk Overlook in CT today. Slightly hazy but the views are still stunning

One part of my brain says "you should invite other people along on these scenic trips"

The other part says "no one would want to go. One person said no one time and that means no one wants to do anything ever"

The second part always wins

The view from adjacent to the lookout tower. Not FROM the lookout tower, NEAR the lookout tower. The tower was closed and has been for some time by the look of it.

The tower also had dedicated convertible parking

Up at Quabbin Park in Mass today. Not pictured - the couple standing at the waters edge cuddling and giggling preventing me from getting the pictures I wanted

The re-release of Virtual Boy games means my second favorite instance of US vs JP cover art is relevant again!

Why would I ever play regular Kaido in Pirate Warriors 4 when I can play half dragon Kaido with giant stompy paws? (Giant in game as he's one of the giant sized characters. His paws are proportionately on the small side) (also regular Kaido is better) (both S tier tho)
