The OLO's recounting of that encounter says Scheer "quietly left the room" at the end of the meeting, while Warkentin stayed behind. After a few more words, Warkentin shook d'Entremont's hand before also leaving the room, according to the OLO statement.

PPS when I went to get alt-text for the above excerpt you used, I learned it's not in the NDP rules www.ndp.ca/sites/defaul... so it is Elections Canada rules? Which like I said, you knew/know from the mainstream media articles what EC was on record as saying, but you are insinuating something else.

Matthew McKenna, a spokesperson for Elections Canada, said that it wasn’t against the law for Engler to raise funds in advance of his candidacy being approved by the NDP.

“There’s nothing in the Canada Elections Act that prevents any individual from raising money for any reason,” said McKenna.

PS reading it again, I guess accepting donations doesn't automatically make him considered a leadership candidate - it only means that *if they accept him* then they'll consider him to have been a candidate from when he started fundraising.

MASCULINITIES

To speak of masculinities is to speak about gender relations. Masculinities are not equivalent to men; they concern the position of men in a gender order. They can be defined as the patterns of practice by which people (both men and women, though predominantly men) engage that position.

There is abundant evidence that masculinities are multiple, with internal complexities and even contradictions; also that masculinities change in history, and that women have a considerable role in making them, in interaction with boys and men.

70+ children have been pulled from school. There is apparently horrific screenshots of what this woman is saying in the parents group chat. A child said that the unstable woman’s kid, who is 6 years old, said my sister is a boy and acts weird.

My sister is a girl in her 20s that lost a lot of weight and doesn’t wear makeup. She is so scared of what is happening. I just found out about this and have never felt more anger in my life. Do we have recourse to do anything here?

EDIT: i should clarify this all came to light this morning because the 70 kids didn’t come to school and I guess the parents are “threatening” to withdraw them. There are multiple meetings with parents tonight

… suffice it to say that being kept forever on the brink of starvation, worked beyond the capacities of the human body, exposed daily to wanton acts of cruelty, subjected to year-round elemental onslaught, and being perpetually enveloped in pestilence and disease, has the capacity to turn human bodies into emaciated shells devoid of will power or physical strength. Throughout survivor testimonies, starvation is the most frequently cited obstacle to resistance. One survivor of the Warsaw ghetto, Marek Edelman, annoyed with perpetual questions about the passivity of those who boarded trains bound for death camps, explained to his interviewer: “Listen . . . do you have any idea what bread meant at the time in the Ghetto? Because if you don’t, you will never understand how thousands of people could voluntarily come for the bread and go on to the camp at Treblinka. Nobody has understood thus far.” Vera Laska, a survivor of Auschwitz and editor of Women in the Resistance and in the Holocaust, reflects on the significance of bread in the camps:

Though we may recoil learning about situations like this, most of us will never really know what it feels like to be so systematically deprived of food; thus our exploration of this topic must always be guided by the deepest humility for the hunger that we can read about but never truly know.

Hopefully this isn't necessary, but I thought to share an excerpt from a zine I put together - I think it puts in a clear light how Holocaust commemoration and the fight against antisemitism are being used for modern day genocide denial. 1/2

“FEED ME” and red paint on the National Holocaust Monument

In the early hours of 2025-06-09, the words feed “FEED ME” were graffitied onto the side of the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa, along with splashes of red paint. The culprit eventually pled guilty to a charge of ‘mischief to a war memorial.’

The vandalism was widely perceived and portrayed as an act of antisemitism: “This is pure hate against Jews” – Iddo Moed; “This doesn’t feel like it’s about Israel” – CIJA; “It’s ridiculous to say that this was not motivated by hate” – Lawrence Greenspon. In a bail ruling, the judge stated it “could be seen as weaponizing through extreme hatred, targeting the vulnerabilities of a section of our community.” In his plea, the culprit acknowledged the pain caused to the Jewish community; his lawyer explained afterwards, “He looks forward to demonstrating that his motivation was rooted in a desire to call attention to human suffering, not to cause harm or spread intolerance.”

The Monument commemorates the Jewish and other victims of Nazi Germany and its collaborators, and is also a tribute to the survivors. Its Committee has a duty to “ensure that the atrocities that occurred during this dark period of history are remembered and that we never forget the lessons of the past.” So while the graffiti on the Monument is seen by some as an attack on Jews, it can also be perceived as aligning with the overarching principles the Monument represents against genocide in general.

But Monument Committee co-chair Lawrence Greenspon stated, “It’s high time that the leaders of the world, including our own prime minister, stop blaming Israel for the situation in Gaza. It is not a situation that was created by Israel, nor is it one that is being continued by Israel,” and that this ‘unfounded’ criticism of Israel “is fueling the fires of hatred which cause these types of crimes.”

difference, but an important one, as it means he has no real ideological commitment to any of the shit he says. The wank-purveyor, by contrast, is deeply wedded to their statements: what they say matters to them in a way that it doesn't for a bullshitter, and a wank-purveyor will carry through with their positions even at significant personal cost.

If you've ever been exposed to wank in any real concentration, you know exactly how hard and unpleasant it is to fight through. You're told, to your face, things that are simply not true, impractical or actually evil and asked to accept it on trust. When you ask questions, even the most innocent questions are met with a hostile reaction, as though you'd personally injured the person. Unrelated issues, often to do with the speaker's identity, will find themselves dragged into the discussion. If you keep pushing or refuse to accept what's being said as truth, you'll be labelled as an enemy in favour of all kinds of evil shit. If you're on social media, you might find yourself the target of a specious dogpile from people who believe the accusations, or you might find your reputation otherwise tarred. You walk away from the whole thing confused, hurt and feeling faintly put out by the hostility directed at you from people whom you might well mostly agree with.

Not surprising. If they had an 1890s themed Hallowe'en party, they'd probably be wearing 1890's era attire.

Of course the attire of an era isn't completely homogeneous: rich people often don't have quite the same styles as regular people. Trump's guests probably didn't dress as hobos, for example.
