This is hate speech

Wiped down the mirror and cleaned the shower tile just in time to boomerang right back around to dressing like I did in high school

Went for a walk the other week and came across this sweat bee perched perfectly in the middle of a fall-blooming aster

They're an aggressive, weedy invasive species across large swathes of the eastern US and PNW (you could see suckers/seedlings coming up under these trees), but I finally got a close-up look of my neighbor's pawlonias

'Victoria' is just such a boringly green rhubarb cultivar

Anyway, we're making rhubarb jam

I didn't expect it'd be this year

Syringa 'Nadezhda,' (a Soviet cultivar whose name means "hope"). 'Congo' and 'President Lincoln' are still too small to flower

All the alder-leaved serviceberries (Amelanchier alnifolia) have reached blooming age this year 😄

1. 'Honeywood'
2. 'Fergie'
3. 'Lee #8'
4. 'Regent'

1-3 were purchased as whips from St. Lawrence Nurseries. 4 came as a mature plant from Boehler's near Saginaw, MI

Day 4. The jar denizens ("ginger bug" - wild yeast and lactobacillus) have been moved to their long-term residence in the fridge

Some of them have been used to inoculate a ginger/lemon/brown sugar solution. If I did everything right, it should be carbonated in 3-8 days

Day 3. So proud of my much my microbial boy has grown

We have audible fizzing! (less than 12 hours after the first feeding)

I'm sorry for ever doubting you, Randazzo's ginger
March 28, 2025 at 5:54 PM
Mmkay, we're doing it

Going with the recipe that uses the most ginger and sugar at the outset so I'll know as quickly as possible if the non-organic ginger I bought was disinfected with radiation after harvest

Hoping for foaminess and bubbles
