One of my faves. I once got lost in the wilderness pre cell phones and followed one of these on a whim and it led me back close to camp.
A red spotted purple butterfly, Limenitis arthemis, resting on a sidewalk with its wings outstretched. From the top view it is a predominantly black colored butterfly. It's forewings have 2 rows of white spots on the trailing margin, it's hind wings have a lightish blue color on the trailing edges, with a black band interrupting the blue.

I think it's a Mordellid. I remembered the family name started with an M. But I started my search to jog my memory on a whim with "what beetle has a pointy butt?" Google AI said earwig. Google Lens said this image was a cockroach. Sigh.

Encountered this little dude trucking across the hiking path.

On a hike today with my daughter, I was the Snow White of insects and a soldier beetle and weevil paid me a visit while we rested on our sittin' stump, as well as a couple little wasps too fast to get pics.

Daughter and I refer to this as the Elf King in the Stone. He's not looking happy. Nearby erosion has split a large stone people used to stand on to look out from the Bluff. Last time I visited was not split and tilting.
