A reminder that the library is more than books.

It's 10 degrees outside today. I am privileged to be sitting here working. There are also homeless people sitting here with me taking shelter from the cold.

Libraries are a welcoming community space for everyone.

Proof your public library loves you: they leave you alone while you read, they don’t mind when you bring your kids over, and they’ll let you borrow any of their books, even the hardcovers

Today on #GivingTuesday I’m helping Deck the Shelves of the Fairfax County Public Library by donating books off their wish list. If you love your library I encourage you to make a gift to their friends group or foundation today. www.amazon.com/gp/registry/... #libraries

If you have little ones, check out the library programs available for them. Many libraries offer weekly storytimes and playtimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Some also have toy areas which are great as the weather gets colder.

Just a reminder that your local library has more than just books! Many also have dvds, cds, video games, game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, and so so much more! Maybe it's time for a visit!

Eating too much cake is the sin of gluttony. However, eating too much pie is okay because the sin of pi is always zero.

libraries are truly proof that there is goodness and magic still in the world because what do you mean I get to take home this whole stack of books and read it for FREE

The MFA program I work with actively addresses that by having an in-house small press the students run. We have coursework on publishing. Students get to see behind the curtain for that reason.
Creative Writing/MFA programs are often lacking in useful courses or programs addressing the current state of publishing and/or money management, which I think is a problem, because many of those students will want to enter the stream of commerce and won't know how to look out for themselves there.
I mean, it was always telling to me that as I was getting my Creative Writing degree there were zero classes on selling a novel.

A lot of folks are giving up in advance. Capitulating before a single skirmish.

Well, not this old warrior. I’ve seen much worse from the U.S. government in my day. I’m concerned for our country, but not a bit scared of these miscreants. I’m ready to do my part.

Who’s with me?

I would also say donating. Donations to your library’s friends group or foundation help fund book collections and programs.
