I just received an email informing us about safety measures to take when traveling. Five years ago, I would not have imagined seeing these countries named together:

"Countries classified as high risk in terms of knowledge security are: China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and the United States."

Very good article by @martinsandbu.ft.com. I am still debating whether pragmatism now to prepare for a future confrontation might make sense. But when I hear European leaders praise Trump I do feel like the title of this article: they are selling our soul.

Google Gemini doesn’t appear to be doing too well:

‘"I am a disgrace to this planet. I am a disgrace to this universe. I am a disgrace to all universes . . . I am a disgrace to all possible and impossible universes and all that is not a universe," the bot continued.’
Google says it's working on a fix for Gemini's self-loathing 'I am a failure' comments
Google Gemini users said the bot is sharing self-loathing messages while attempting to solve tasks, including "I am a disgrace to this universe."

Yes, but let's be clear about the narrative: this was not a trade deal. The US can always impose 15% tariffs on the EU, no need for Europe to agree. What was agreed is that the EU will not retaliate after that imposition (plus some other details that no one yet understands).
The EU has validated Trump’s bullying trade agenda

“Biggest trade deal ever”???? Hard to believe that European politicians do not understand the damage they are causing to democratic values in Europe when they are willing to play Trump’s game.
We have deal 🇪🇺🇺🇸

Together, the EU and the US are a market of 800 million people.

And nearly 44 percent of global GDP.

It’s the biggest trade deal ever ↓

Tipping points matter:
Feels like we are in a threshold cascade: I will join as long as X percent of my alters join. You will join as long as Y percent of your alters join. These sorts of things can domino through networks but they can also come to an abrupt halt if a pivotal node does not reach its threshold.

Music to my ears, these days
“We are investing in community violence intervention (CVI) programs because street outreach by credible messengers and behavioral science-informed interventions help de-escalate stressful situations before they lead to violence."
A new $20 million grant is available for community organizations working on violence prevention efforts in Chicago • The TRiiBE
In a joint announcement, local officials announce a new grant that will fund street outreach and case management for residents impacted by gun violence.

A good read on how the failed rationale for tariffs fails to interpret the academic results cited in their methodology section.
This, from my colleague
Brent Neiman says it all.

Trump admin used the results from his paper to justify tariff rates. Except they used the completely wrong number.

Staggering 🤯
