Going through the 90s/00s New York punk scene has been underwhelming, but Silent Majority is a real jem. You can definitely see how it influenced subsequent, poppier bands, but it maintains a level of catchy, straightforward aggression that keeps it well within melodic hardcore.

Meanwhile, one of the more influential albums for the pop-punk scene that was about to explode in the area straddles between it and melodic hardcore, falling short of both.

A study in contrasts in mid-90s New York punk. There's not a lot of variation here, but Madball delivers an unexpectedly charismatic performance. Doesn't really go beyond the genre markers, but breezy and enjoyable anyway.
