pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Sure, teenage humans are awkward, but just look at this juvenile summer tanager. The adult males are bright red, but this guy is splotchy yellow, green, red & gray.
But even if female tanagers laugh at him, he'll never fall for misogynist influencers. macaulaylibrary.org/asset/146358...

To test and celebrate my new feed, I’m posting this photo of a stunning mossy sculpture that was placed in a forest south of Gnesta, Sweden. I don’t know the artist or if it’s still there.

I'm going to reproduce a thread I did on the other place because I think you will like it.

I posit that for every photo of a French philosopher looking drunk there also exists a photo of them looking cool. The drunker they look in the first the cooler they look in the second. Exhibit a Beauvoir.

20 years ago I knew a guy who worked part time, minimum wage, as a dishwasher.

He was able to afford rent and a car (both shitty but functional), concerts, weed, etc.

It's interesting to think of how that kind of dirtbag lifestyle is mostly just gone.

I should have my kids read this. We've had some interesting conversations about why people would mate with another species.
"If you lived back then you'd just be glad to meet someone you aren't related to, even if he was a bit funny looking" is a thing I have said out loud at my job.

Early humans weren’t conquerors but wanderers who mingled with other human species. The new view of human migration is much friendlier, less vicious & competitive. It's important to update pop culture notions human of evolution 🧪 by @danvergano.bsky.social www.scientificamerican.com/article/huma...

Or, in the rest of the world, 311223, which is still *kinda* cool but not as much.
