I've made this pretty poster of my books, so far, for an upcoming event. Maybe one looks relevant to you? :)

Just got my print copies of "Memories that Matter"! Here it is alongside the rest of my collection--it's a big book. (I knew it would be, but only now see them side-by-side.)
You can find out more about it here:

I find it really fascinating how images can evoke emotions, but different people might process those images differently based on pre-existing semantic knowledge. For a few IAPS images (the most-used emotion image database), I did some hunting to find their origins.

All of the previous was the memory fundamentals, next we get to the more interesting stuff.
We start looking at motivational effects on memory by discussing emotion--and begin with a story.

The next chapter goes over neurobiology of memory--the hippocampus and medial temporal lobe are the main focus.
However, I also discuss regional cortical specialisation, such as regions associated with processing face, place, words, numbers, etc. I show some stimuli.

Going back to earlier topics--individual differences included discussing aging and aphantasia, but also genetic markers related to memory, particularly APOE.
I was surprised to find that people prefered to know their APOE status with either outcome.

Let's skip forward a few chapters for now, there's a section on memory strategies for remembering the digits of pi!

Both cross-sectional and longitudinal approaches to looking at age-related cognitive decline are flawed. Cross-sectional has education/cohort effects, but longitudinal has repeated testing/practice effects. If you correct for both--the results look remarkably similar!

As my focus is more on memory function than 'conventional' memory systems, I was happy to talk about the DRM paradigm and point out the innate episodic-semantic interactions it demonstrates.

One of the most interesting parts of writing this text was really diving into the literature and finding the stories. Here are two:
(1) The unfortunate arrest, but airtight alibi, of Donald Thomson.
(2) The origins of the lost-in-the-mall study.

The first chapter is broad, but what's the book really about...?
Chapter 2 sets things up, this is focused on a functional approach to memory. One of the early examples here is how stories follow schema.

Each section has icon that represents concept from section. These icons are 'reminder cues,' shown again at ch ends and in an early overview.
