Despite the federalization of the government, the US has more in common with the EU than any one European country in many ways.

Meanwhile Alabama was like "slavery uplifted the black man and made him useful" until like 1975.

One of the wilder things in the US is the variability of history teaching. I grew up in CA and we read Farewell to Manzanar and went to hear the author speak at a big event for multiple schools. We read all kinds of stuff about the horrors of slavery and treatment of Native Americans.

Like, I can't even get back to the top of this thread from here because someone's blocked someone and it totally breaks the chain.

Well that's definitely not nice.

Bsky is bad at replies of replies and the thing you responded to directly was from someone who's either blocked me or blocked someone else in the conversation and bsky is again bad at that.

I thought we were talking about gagging on perfectly cromulent foodstuffs.

I’m not going to argue with you that 1940s white adult Americans were most probably racist, but at least we’re self aware about it.

Most Britons do not know scale of UK’s involvement in slavery, survey finds
Vast majority unaware how many people were enslaved and for how long, although poll finds support for reparations is rising

Also if they’re Americanized why did they all think it was gross before they tried it.

Seems pretty dramatic tbh.

I’m not interested in litigating the troll US vs UK debate here but I will not stand for this biscuits and gravy slander.

Fried chicken also rips. And brisket. And Pecan pralines.

As is usually the answer with food things, the answer to the question “why?“ is “it tastes fuckin great”
