Tbh the way Nosferatu merges Lucy and Mina is also entirely defensible. You do get a different story, but it's a good story (at least in the 20s and 70s, I haven't seen the recent one). Very different story though

The misinterpretions go way, way beyond that, is the thing. It's a fairly solid three parter by victim (Jonathan, Lucy, Mina) and you COULD in theory simplify any/all of the three parts with no harm to the overall vibe. That is not what any adaptation I've ever seen choses to do, however 😂
