Oh that does sound like a good reread as well, I'm definitely reading it again next year, I think it'll be better to come to it again with a bit more life experience on my side

It's one of my favourite books written in recent years, I really loved it and thought the atmosphere was really captured well with the horrors of war

I've read Birdsong, I found it mixed in the parts that weren't the war, however the part set in the trenches was one of the best things I've ever read

I hope you love it like I did, it's so unique and I think everyone will take away different things from it

It was so good, one of the standout books of my reading year, the prose is so lyrical, it has a distinct voice with repetitive rhythms and alliteration and I read a lot of it out loud because it begged for it
A great study on a complex and enmeshed relationship between mother & daughter
