Continuing my Black History Month reads with this gorgeous book, it's hard to believe it's a debut, the writing is so gorgeous and lyrical

More adventures in Bookland! It was an honour to attend the launch of Katie McCrory's WHERE THE HEART IS at Daunt Books. Katie is the daughter of my dear friend (and former creative writing lecturer) Moy. Also, enjoy a bonus pic of @emreadsthebooks.bsky.social and I at the The Ivy--because why not?

Had such a fun night last night with @tommeadauthor.bsky.social at dinner and two book launches!!
It was amazing to celebrate The House of Fallen Stars and Where the Heart is and their amazing authors!

A great (and hectic!) night on the town last night with lovely @emreadsthebooks.bsky.social , starting off at BookBar in Chelsea for the launch of my friend Louise Hare's extraordinary new book THE HOUSE OF FALLEN SISTERS

I've kicked off my reading for #BlackHistoryMonth with one of my new favourite writers, I'm trying to read all of Percival Everett's work

This one is so confounding and off the wall! I don't think there's another writer like him and he never writes the same book twice!

A little book haul

The world feels so dark & heavy that I'm searching for pockets of light & whimsy, so last weekend my family celebrated second Christmas, these were my second Christmas presents

For #BlackHistoryMonth I'll be sharing some of my favourite Black American writers and reading exclusively Black writers for February

Here are some favourites I shared last year, more will be coming...

If you need a book that's like a balm to read, to soothe the soul of any book lover in these troubled times, this has been the book for me these past few days

I now just need a long correspondence with a beloved bookshop... Any offers...?

Quirky and quippy and just a little bit wonky
Lost Lambs has me hooked and I'm tipping it to appear on the women's prize list this summer
The humour in the book is a bit off the wall and very much my style

Starting off my reading year with Wally Lamb feels like a good omen

I Know This Much is True is one of my all time favourites and this one starts off with as big of a shock as that one does (IYKYK)

My 2026 BIG reading plans...
These big chunksters have sat on my shelves for a while & this year is the year they're finally going to be read!
One a month seems doable... right???
Anyone want to join?

I've read 79 books this year and the number makes my brain itch, so I've picked up this one from my backlist as my last book of the year

What better way to spend Jane Austen's 250th birthday than re-reading my favourite of her books, Persuasion (although Emma has crept up just behind it)

Where would we readers be without Austen? I don't even want to imagine it

This beautiful Chiltern edition (which I collect) of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (which I wanted) was sent to me without a note or name

I'm guessing someone here might have something to do with it???

Whoever it was I'm sincerely touched and can't thank you enough 💞💞

A really wonderful day out and about in the Big Smoke with one of my favourite people! This was my 3rd time seeing Hadestown, but @emreadsthebooks.bsky.social 's first. I love it more each time.

My year of re-reading wouldn't be complete without one of my all time favourites

From the moment I first read Dorian Gray I was forever under its spell and it only gets better with every read

I took part in Dunelm's delivering joy at Christmas again this year

Only one kid asked for books but I put a book into every parcel, you never know, that one book could be their first access point to books & could spark a lifetime love of literature

All kids should have access to books!

"What two letters of the alphabet are there that express perfection?
M and A.
Em-ma"

My re-read of Emma has been such a delight
It's moved up my Jane Austen list to joint favourite with Persuasion

What's your personal order?

I've not had much success with hyped books or new releases lately, so let's see how we go....

I know The Names is beloved by so many

During my re-read of Emma I decided to turn this gorgeous notebook into a commonplace book, noting down my favourite quotes from all the books I'm reading

I can't begin to say how much more pleasure and depth it's added to my reading

Do you have one of your own?

Has everyone's book club chosen Frankenstein this month?

For years I've wanted to read All Quiet on the Western Front during Remembrance day and finally I'm reading this devastating novel

It's hard to read but also hard to turn away from knowing what all those innocent boys and men went through

Have you read it?
