1. I’ve got a few minutes, so gonna craft a quick thread about something that hasn’t gotten as much attention over the past few months:

Trump has vowed to be a champion of religion, but *religious opposition* to his administration and policies is loud, persistent and, frankly, overwhelming.

In the balance of faith and works, Francis's version of Catholicism was tilted far to the direction of works: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, make peace for the war-afflicted. ("Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God".) Not just faith, but faith made manifest through works.

From here I will be calling this exact strain of right-wing Christofascist dispensational premillennialist apocalyptic evangelical supersessionist covenentalist Biblical-inerrantist evangelicalism that's merged almost fully with right-wing cultural issues and the US civil religion "the US heresy".

When you grow up evangelical part of the deconversion process is reckoning with the concept of sin as something that makes you inherently bad and hellbound but at some point you reach the horseshoe theory part where you realize sin is in fact real and we see it every day when we turn on the news

let me say that this is the classic “just asking questions” approach to delegitimizing the achievements of black people. and critically, you don’t even have to be a black person who talks about race. simply being black to these people means you are “obsessed with race.”
Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story.

Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver.

This is what "merit" means to them.

Lots to piece out from day 1 of the hearing on Trump's executive order concerning trans people in the military, but this back-and-forth between Judge Ana Reyes and government lawyer Jason Lynch about intersex people and biology is interesting!
