On hunger: once upon a time, the government handed out actual food to the hungry, either to individuals or schools. That included cheese, milk, meat, canned vegetables, canned fruit. Lasted until my mother, receiving a very low-end SSA check, was offered government cheese and butter in 1980s.

Our freedom to marry remains the law of the land.

Good government is NOT a business and does not "run like a business. The purpose of a business is making money for its owner...and to do that many businesses do create value for customers. The purpose of a government is serving its citizens by establishing security, justice, health, etc.

And what leverage do the Dems have? Forcing fed employees to work without pay isn't leverage. This is not on the Dems. It's all on the GOP. The GOP fully intends to destroy the ACA, one way or the other. Passing a short-term spending bill will fully expose the GOP's radical, extreme cruelty.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

"Those radicals you've been told to find loud, 'unreasonable' and annoying keep consisently being correct, so maybe this should finally prompt some rethinking of your assumptions" remains undefeated.
If they are acting the way "bad faith leftists" assume they act, maybe the leftists were simply correct? In fact, if you look at the leftist sentiment on everything this past election cycle, they have the single most accurate track record of anyone else.

Maybe it's just salient analysis.

First frost last night. Not particularly early, thinking back to our first years here, late '70s to early '80s. That's back when we had snow at least twice a year (not a lot except once but some snow at least twice, sometimes "minor" flurries a couple more times.)

Trump claiming that families "choose to be hungry" absolutely is either lying or too ignorant to be in any position of power. Leaving aside cruel parents--and there are some--no parent wants their child to be hungry--really, systemically, hungry. The lies the well-fed tell to justify not helping

Once again SCOTUS majority chooses to support the fascist leader and not the people and Constitution. By allowing Trump to insist that some SNAP payments can be ignored in November, SCOTUS has ensured that some people will go hungry. Some old, some children, some disabled...

Isn't that a sad reflection on your country. A lot of SNAP benefits go to people who work full time, but corporations don't pay living wages so it is yet more corporate welfare. As well as paying SNAP benefits, they should increase the minimum wage to a living wage.

This week, we elected a Democratic mayor for the first time EVER!

The good people in town just couldn't vote GOP anymore

The man who won ran several times before for various positions and lost every time
