i talked about it tonight on air but it's kinda crazy that Jimi Hendrix could play better than most people and more unique ways because he had larger hands. obviously an incredibly talented artist but the hands sure do help (coming from someone who's hands were not built for learning guitar)

hot take: Bell Bottom Blues by Derek and the Dominos is very underrated, the desperation and emotion in the "I don't wanna fade away"s takes it to another level

is there a song you didn't think you knew just by reading the title but then once you heard it you realized you've heard it too many times to count? mine hit me during radio shifts (so far Strange Kind of Woman by Deep Purple, Amie by Pure Prairie League, and Vehicle by The Ides of March)

Did you know that "Good Vibrations" was actually based on a story about dogs? On February 18, 1966, Beach Boys started recording the hit song. It was inspired by leader Brian Wilson's mom often saying dogs would bark at people as a response to their "bad vibrations".

Tommy James' "Draggin' the Line" was written about the everyday routine of working. The title line of the song was born out of the melody of the song, he said the bass "spoke" the words to him. Written on his farm in upstate New York, James said he likely couldn't have written the song in the city.

Did you know that "SWLABR" by Cream was meant to stand for "She Was Like a Bearded Rainbow"? Pete Brown said it was written about a man defacing pictures of his girlfriend after she "has given him the elbow". It's meant to be nonsensical and psychedelic. What's your favorite Cream song?

While writing "Friday I'm in Love" for the Cure, Robert Smith was convinced he stole the chord progression and eventually was assured it was original after no one could tell him what it was from. Released May 15, 1992, it reached 6th on UK charts and 18th on US charts.

Steely Dan's "Chained Lightning" was written to be a character singing the song, like other Steely Dan music. This one is about a nazi sympathizer (Donald Fagen was of Jewish descent, not meant at all to be a reflection of reality). The lyric "the little man" refers to Hitler.

"Take Me to the River", originally an Al Green song, was popularized by Talking Heads. Appearing on their second album "More Songs About Buildings and Food", it was their biggest hit at that point. This was the only cover Talking Heads ever did.

"1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)" is one of Jimi Hendrix's longest songs at 13:39. This song describes an escape from all the problems of the world, like the Vietnam War. The transformation is likely meant to be drug induced.

For those who don't personally know me, I DJ for my college's radio station Monday/Wednesday nights during our vintage rock hours (playing only 1964-74). Mondays and Wednesdays may start focusing on either the artist we focus on that day or something else played during my shifts. What do yall think?

Many people argue over the meaning of "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley and The Wailers. Some people claim it as a ballad about poverty and hardship, others claim Marley wrote it on a plane after being in Brazil inspired by the love they showed him.

Bangles hit "Manic Monday" was written by Prince. Susanna Hoffs recalls being excited to record a song for Prince, though they made the track fully their own. Prince still enjoyed what they made of it regardless of the changes.

Steely Dan's "Dirty Work", from their 1972 album "Can't Buy a Thrill", has been used in "The Sopranos" and "The Simpsons". The song is about an affair between a man and a married woman, the man knows she is using him but doesn't care to break it off.

Jeff Buckley never confirmed the idea, but many believe "Lover, You Should've Come Over" was written about his breakup with actress and musician Rebecca Moore. From his only studio album released August 23,1994, this song has resurfaced on Tiktok.
