Wake up.
Look at news.
Mutter ‘what the fuck….’ in tones of dismay, anger, disbelief and sheer amazement.
Decide to go back to fiction

Someone please host this near me, I NEED to hear it
When the curtain falls and silence returns, one light remains… the ghost light. 💡

Next October (26–31) I tour The Ghost Light — chilling tales from Britain’s most haunted theatres.

Would your venue dare host it? 👻 #TheGhostLight

I’m joined by the fab Deborah Hyde on the new episode of Time between Times. We discuss how it’s possible that the same tales pop up all over the world and have done for centuries. I also tell one of Deborah’s favourite tales and perform a guided listen

So remember when I said I was at a lovely civic building a couple of days ago but I felt very uncomfortable in the ladies loo, like I wasn’t alone in there? Well, I took a photo - didn’t catch anything but I think you can feel the atmosphere (the drips are gold paint)

One day I’ll learn that the whole work really hard on a number of projects whilst also working hard on the day job and exercising a lot until I finally born out and can’t do anything and then rest a very tiny little before doing it all again cycle is not a good thing. But not today. Or tomorrow

There is an entire murder of crowd making an ungodly racket outside my window right now and have been for an hour and I have to wonder what that portends?

The problem with having so many electronic devices (I have so many…) is that occasionally one will beep and I have no idea which one it is or what it is trying to tell me

A gentle reminder to all those who write book blurbs - I don’t really care who is telling me this is the most important book of the century or how this redefines a genre - I just want to know what the book is about. Just a few lines. Please. Tell me the subject, a vague plot outline. Anything…

I was charming and friendly and sweet all day today and I have to eat an entire box of biscuits to recover

I’m volunteering (against my will) at an event today which means I have to try to be happy and friendly all day (boo) but does mean I get into this historically significant building when it’s empty so been running around taking atmospheric photos (it’s is haunted, let you know if I get a ghost)

I’m currently reading Martin Macinnes Infinite Ground and it’s one of those books that seem to be a certain kind of story in a certain genre and very slowly and with no sign posting becomes something else. It’s enthralling

I’ve got myself tickets for Matthew Bourne’s Red Shoes for Christmas and it’s going to be wonderful

Always fun when watching Peter Laws Into the Fog and he talks about a really scary experience in a place that I know…not unsettling at all…

Went to Waterstones - new collection of Penguin Horror books. Like Pomegranate Seed by Edith Wharton or Moths by Rosemary Ashe. Very difficult not to buy everything on the shelf

I would like to congratulate myself for completing a task on one afternoon that I was sure was going to take at least two weekends. Yay me! Take that ADHD. I can now mess about for the rest of the weekend.

I have no idea what to do myself now…

Frankenstein, as often happens with Guillermo Del Toro films for me, invaded my brain to the extent I dreamed about it all night, not just the beauty and the horror of it, but the deep emotional impact it had on me

Mary Shellys Frankenstein is in ny top 2 books of all time, in part because she write it in a crowded lodging house in Bath. She wrote the first four chapters in the weeks following the suicide of her half-sister Fanny. Her first child died in infancy, and /1

I found Del Toro’s Frankenstein simply astounding. The emotion - the horror - the layers of symbolism and meaning - the allusions to art and literature and previous adaptations - Elizabeth - a Creature that felt like Mary Shelley’s Creature for once #Frankenstein #FrankensteinSpoilers
