My husband makes wine, I drink and write about it. Based in the Veneto, in northern Italy. Grow most of my own vegetables. Hope it's sunnier over here.
Maybe it was the fact that everyone else had gone to bed thus, for the first time all day, there was silence but this beer hit the spot last night.

There will never be another Anthony Bourdain but we can certainly learn from him and spread his message of humanity.

He’s known for defending international street vendors, immigrant restaurant workers and cooks no matter what country he is in bc he sees everyone as equal. #OnYourSide

I've always said that I'm a fair-weather gardener. I put a few veggies in the ground in the autumn and harvest whatever comes up.
But, let me just say, 30+ degree heat is not fair-weather gardening conditions either! 🥵

Reworking our wine labels today, so putting it out there: what do or don't you like about wine labels?

Natural wine needs a funky label?
Do you like images drawn by kids? Featuring the family dog or cat?
Colour or monochrome?
Over-sharing of information or keeping it tidy with a link or QR code?

2013 Chinuri from Iago. Delicious! The Goldilocks amount of skin contact maceration, but which I mean complexity, age-worthiness and ability to play nicely with food, without dominating.

We don’t talk about suicide as often as we should.

This piece about a man gone too soon raises difficult, important issues about mental health. It’s carefully and beautifully written.

The world is on fire and things are loud. The conversations, in the midst of it all, are hard.
Have them anyway.

Eric Asimov tastes non-alcoholic wines so you don't have to.

"Most of them I found unpleasant. Many were cloyingly sweet. Others were out of balance or incomplete, as if the middle had been hollowed out. One was punishingly acidic."

Why Is It So Hard to Find a Good Nonalcoholic Wine? (Gift Article)
Extracting the alcohol from a wine can also remove richness and body from the finished product. But these 10 producers have cracked the code.

It still amazes me how food can grow from nothing. I planted these broccoli plants in November or December. They were giving them away because it was the end of the season. I did nothing all winter (apart from cover them when the temperature dropped) and now I know what we're having for lunch today.

I remember the cystic fibrosis patients I took care of 20 years ago.

I also remember the dedicated HIV wards in the hospitals, and that Princess Diana made headlines for shaking hands with AIDS patients.

Progress has been incredible.

Two years ago, almost exactly to the day, I was 8 months pregnant.

One night my ankles had been itchy. Strange, I thought, it's too early in the year for insect bites.

The next morning, at the end of my weekly prenatal "gym class", I asked the instructor, "is it normal that my ankles are itchy?"

Reminded this evening- I was at a department store looking for a bra and this 60 ish year old guy came up to me. I braced in dread, but really softly he asked, “Can I ask you for some help? My wife just had a mastectomy and I want to get her something that will make her feel pretty but is soft.”

If you're into #wine, you might want to read about how the 2024 vintage went down in Italy. It was a year that most winemakers want to abolish from their memory.

I just clicked publish on this tale of two halves:

The 2024 Vintage across Italy
The 2024 vintage in Italy proved to be more challenging than 2023 for winemakers, particularly in the Veneto region. Cold temperatures and increased rainfall hindered grape development. While north…

I have the kind of interphone that as soon as someone rings, it picks up what I'm saying in the house.

Unfortunately, I happened to be listening - and singing along - to Ceelo's "F*** You" just now.

I owe the delivery driver an apology. 🙈
