There was a time - not long ago! - when referring to immigrants coming into the country as an "invasion" was the fringe and extreme rhetoric of neo-Nazis and white supremacists.

It's now being used by the President of the US in his inaugural address and getting loud applause.

You won’t see a better quality debate in parliament than this. Assisted dying bringing out the intelligent, respectful side of politics that we could probably do with a lot more of.

Almost every MP speaking has a personal story in some way: a relative, a friend, medical experience, or even an episode from their own lives.

It is immensely powerful to watch. The level of respect and compassion on both sides is palpable. It does not feel like a normal Commons debate at all
The debate in the Commons on assisted dying feels really finely balanced. Support, energy and good arguments on both sides. Hard to tell which way it’s going to go.

Some great speeches from doctors in the debate today. Shows the value of proper professional representation in parliament. We could do with far more of it from working class professions as well.

Genuinely have no idea which way today’s vote on the Assisted Dying Bill will go.

The debate has been extraordinary on both sides but it’s clear that if this bill doesn’t pass today, it’ll be a long time before MPs get an opportunity like this again.
