This is true for early career astronomers too - participating in a review panel, getting to read a variety of proposals and really understand what makes a good proposal and what misses - is an incredibly valuable use of time.
Apply for the early reviewer program--being at Study Section, writing reviews and watching the process unfold is exceptionally helpful
My first experience as an #NIH reviewer was extremely gratifying and honestly life changing.
I only wish I would have done it sooner…much sooner!

Junior PIs: this should be TOP on your priority list! No joke!
