The process of taking Rubin’s first data with the Commissioning Camera began well before sunset, with the team readying the telescope, dome, and mirrors. They conducted twilight calibrations while the sky was still dimming, then pointed the telescope towards a bright star to confirm pointing and focus.

With 189 CCD sensors, LSST Camera has a field of view *21 times* the size of ComCam’s. It will be installed in just a couple months—we’re under a year from beginning our quest to #CaptureTheCosmos and the greatest cosmic movie ever made! 🔭🧪

This isn't the telescope's final form though! This iteration has the smaller 144-megapixel commissioning camera used for testing.

Rubin's 3200-megapixel LSST Camera, which will #CaptureTheCosmos in science operations, will be installed early next year. 🔭🧪

In these First Look observations, Rubin detected 46 RR Lyrae variables using the 3200-megapixel LSST Camera. #RubinFirstLook

And this is just the start! Once Rubin begins to #CaptureTheCosmos with its 10-year survey, scientist expect to detect up to ~10,000!🔭🧪
